Pros Fair CPU (can be upgraded), 3 gigabytes of RAM, 250 gig SATA hard drive, AWESOME graphics with the GeForce 8800M GTS. I can play all my games on max resolution with no lag. Good online technicians
Cons Centrino Duo will be obsolete soon. Luckily, can upgrade the CPU to a Core 2 Duo for more power and performance.
Summary Best Buy had the laptop for $1,349.99 when I bought it. I had had a Gateway Platinum Edition laptop for about 2 years & 3 months. But with a Centrino Solo it was time to upgrade. The only problem I've had with this FX laptop, which Gateway fixed online via remote control, was a sound driver issue from a non Vista capable flash drive. Other than that the laptop has performed great for my school work as well as my games. It performs better with games than my desktop.
Pros amazing price for most specs on computer, HDMI, RAID Compatible
Cons Processor (upgradeable regardless)
Summary got this beast of a laptop for $1199! what a deal! getting the 3rd best graphics card out there, 3 GB of memory, HDMI and eSATA capable, and able to put in two hard drives... ALL FOR 1199! you cant beat this price and even though the processor is subpar, upgrading it to a Penryn will truly make this a competitor with custom computer boutiques out there!
Pros 512 8800gts graphics card, 3gb ram, 17 inch semi gloss screen, decent design, upgradeable, and more
Cons its a gateway, touchpad isnt very responsive, mediocre cpu, vista, hard to see fonts on keyboard, touchpad+buttons are cheap
Summary this computer is an exception to the typical gateway bore. i enjoy playing cs source on this computer with max settings/res without a problem. i try to avoid using the touch sensitive controls on this laptop unless im in a game and i want to avoid the options menus. the touch sensitive media controls are really sloppy although they do have a fancy orangy-red glow to them. the touchpad+buttons are cheaply pieced together. the pad is not very responsive and the buttons are cheap plastic and kind of loose and clunky.
however, these cosmetic flaws can not surpass the value/performance combo you get from $1349. you get a 17 inch with a pleasant screen, a typical cpu with 3gb max ram for vista 32bit, an amazing video card that can play anything flawlessly (except for crysis), and on top of that, this thing has the potential to get a cpu upgrade along with the ram if needed. i also have reason to believe there is an open bay that could be used for an additional harddrive to potentially have raid settings. lots of flexibility in this one. gateway is learning finally! i gave this computer a 9, mainly for the value+performance, and a -1 for some annoying clunky construction. but to note, overall, this computer is not clunky at all. a first i must say for gateway.

Pros Nice laptop, quick gaming speed for the price, lots of storage, good grafics.
Cons Very large and not so portable, but the biggest draw back is Gateway's support sucks and they are behind the curve when it comes to drivers. They don't have n e drivers 4 u if your running win 7 64bit and it's been at least a year since release.
Summary I like the pc but if I had to make the puchase again it would not be a gateway. I have had a couple of issues like the cpu fan failing and now I'm running win 7 64bit and can't get drivers for my chipset and motherboard and that in turn is keeping me from updating my vid card drivers and others. OVER ALL GATEWAY IS A B S COMPANY THAT ONCE YOU BUY FROM THEM THAT'S ALL THEY WANT, i guess they dont want repeat business.
Pros Screen is AWSOME. Keyboard, very nice, love the full number pad. Very sleek and stylish without having the geek-shic Alienware style look, it is a "look at me" laptop, that isn't overstated. The touchpad is also very centrally located.
Cons Display driver failure, 1st day, multiple times while attempting to simply play a DVD or play a game included in the laptop. Within the first hour of use, I noticed thin flickering static like lines occasionally streaking troughout the screen.Volume.
Summary Overall a decent laptop. A great deal for the price. It looks great, but preformance seems to be conditional on whether the thing feels like doing what you want. This is the first day I've had it and it has already given me multiple "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error notices, it's equivilent to "honey I have a headahce". Meaning it has preformed well, except when it didn't. The first time this occured I decided to play a game already on the laptop (a gateway game), and all of a sudden the screen froze, and went black. After about a minute my screen returned with the error notice and continued on as if nothing had happened. While watching a dvd this happened another 4-5 times. As if that wasn't enough, I get thin static lines flashing in various places on the screen every so often, even when no programs are running. And yes the drivers have been updated. Obviously enough, this laptop is going back to "best" buy. Volume is also another minor issue, if you plan to ever watch videos, online or dvd. The volume is fine for music, but it becomes oddly low while watching any kind of video, and seemingly there is no way to fix this. It is still more than loud enough, but oddly enough doesn't get nearly as loud as the songs.
Now for the positives - wonderful screen, not too glossy, and not too matte, a very nice looking screen. Graphics are wonderful (when they work). And after adjusting the touchpad sensitivity it is very responsive and unlike some others, after you are done using it, you still feel like you have a layer of skin left on your finger. The keyboard is wonderful to type on, it may take soome getting used to, but still very nice compared to some. I would highly recomend this product, if not for the technical difficulties I am experiancing. That said, thank God for warranties!
