"Great laptop for the money...beats Sony, Dell..."
on by hotrod1987Pros 4 gig ram, huge drive, space for a second drive, led screen is amazing.HDMI, For $599 this has to be the best value out there. I am a tech for HP products, but this Gateway was a couple hundred less and with the ability to add a second drive.
Cons When are the makers of computers going to just resume sending the real recovery disks!, I will not pay best buy $99.00 to make me a bunch of disks that usually do not work anyway...geek squad is worthless. Give me the freaking disks!
Summary Even with the crappy customer support, I would still buy this item again. It is a shame...Gateway used to have THE BEST customer service in the business in my opinion. Come on Gateway, include the recovery disks and add back at least some telephone support from an American and you could regain the market. I am sold on the product, now beef up the support.
This screen is amazing and I have ran on battery for over 4 hrs now...are you freaking kidding me!!!Awesome. I am not a gamer, so I cannot comment on that. I am really liking Windows 7 so far. -
"Best bang for the buck laptop I've seen!"
on by misterdinkPros Price
Large 17" screen
Easy setup
Not too heavy
Good built-in wireless (connected seamlessly with my home network)Cons Mouse pad sensitivity is a little hit and miss
Keys are off center
Screen could be sharper
Speakers could be nicerSummary I looked at literally 100's of laptops before I went out and bought this one. It wasn't the best but was always in the top 5 of every review/test I read. Price was the real driver and I found it on sale (making it more appealing). If you have a student that needs a good solid laptop, take a look at this one...its perfect. You're not going to be a serious gamer with it nor will you be a multi-media maven. If you want all that...go spend $1000+ for a high end machine. This is exactly what it appears to be. A good all-around home/home office machine. The 500GB HD is more than adequate storage and the Intel Dual Core processor has enough horsepower for any home project you care to tackle. The sound system is adequate (thanks to Dolby) and if you hook up some external speakers the sound really shines! Bottom line...if you want a good, middle-of-the-road, reasonably price laptop, you can't do much better than this one.

"Best bang for your buck 17" laptop."
on by ThemBones24Pros Really like the wide viewing screen and the price that comes with it. Has enough USB ports for easy plug-n-play. Gets a solid 2-3 hours off battery. Great wireless card with never any connection issues. No hang ups with multiple windows open.
Cons Poor viewing angles. Not really a fan of the keys on keyboard...but you get use to it. Default Gateway screensaver crashes. Speakers not the best quality. Not the sharpest looking laptop, but not the worst either. Hard to find on/off button at first.
Summary Don't let my cons comments deter you from buying as I'm nit-picking. Great bang for buck product. I would gladly buy again. Has the speed (RAM), hard drive space, USB ports, and laptop camera...which is all I need. Oh yeah, did I mention the price?

"It's simple: Why pay more?"
on by Mark_W_IngallsPros V. good battery life. Powerful processor. Generous hard drive. Numeric keypad for number-crunchers. HDMI output. Minimal bloat-ware. Really great stealth engineering laptop. Rugged design. Large screen for multiple windows.
Cons Cannot install >4 GB RAM. RGB color balance - NOT! Sparse documentation. Not as flush with multimedia apps as some others. DC end of power cord appears flimsy. Numeric decimal key not where it belongs!
Summary I am an engineer, and I like doing design work at home. I also like being self-sufficient- I own my own 'tools' whenever it is financially feasible. I have found that cheap 'gaming' laptops are the perfect computers for engineering work- generous hard drives, decent displays, and powerful processors with sufficient RAM.
This is the second 'cheap' Gateway I have owned; the first one was still working after four years of daily operation, but I wanted Windows 7. I really like this computer. -
"Excellent laptop"
on by sticksman40Pros Fast processing, stylish, os is easy to use, not alot of preloaded software you don't want
Cons bought it before the NV7915u came out which is its upgraded big brother model for the same price (I bought mine online for $600)
Summary I'd needed to replace my desktop system which is a home made system. I'd had it for 5 years and it was beginning to fall apart on me slowly but surely. I didn't want to spend alot of money but still wanted to feel like I upgraded my system and with a laptop. I've been very impressed with this computer. Great multitasking with good speed and functionality. Windows 7 is an impressive os compared to xp which is what I was using. I look forward to using this system for awhile.
