  • "cheap laptop with horrible processor."
    on by danmoyerpa

Pros cheap. looks nice, until you wear off the silver trim with your wrists. specs 'look' good with nice hard drive and ram

Cons OVERHEATS!!! i have it on a cooling pad, added thermal compound to the cpu, and it still overheats. the internal heat regulator makes the processors go from 2,000 mhz to 500mhz after about 10 minutes of intensive use, such as running a game (mmo or blo

Summary the problem is they put a PoS chip in an otherwise decent laptop. if you want a laptop just for office & casual web browsing, this works. but if you want to run anything on it, you need a faster processor.

Pros This my 7th gateway laptop, i use mainly for work, i also have 2 gateway home units...and yes i shall purchase other gateways, down the road..

Cons 12 out of 15 screws from the bottom of this unit and both hinge screws has fell out i don't treat this unit ruff the workmanship on tighten, failed on the day mine was built in 2009, + battery life, ready for replacement soon,

Summary well for the missing screws, all is well. overall gateway is an user friendly unit for this babyboomer.

  • "Pile of Crap"

Pros Very nice display, runs windows 7 smoothly, looks sleek from the outside.

Cons Painfully slow at times, oveheats, on-board speakers totally weak, sound card improperly grounded, poor internal construction, bios randomly resets settings, needs major upgrading

Summary Looking at the specs, the system itself should be a nice, quick little number for what the base price is (granted it was purchaced last summer). It has a very sleek design and definately is appealing to the eye, even if it looks like yeet another macbook killer. Once you begin using it, the system starts to frey at the ends and show its true colors. First off, the on-board speaker set is so weak that even at top volume, you can hardly hear dialouge in dvds. So, easy fix, I plug my Sennheiser headphones in. This showed that the card was improperly grounded, causing a horrible electric interference to be heard. This sound bore so far into my frontal lobe, I felt like a zombie after watching 'Shaun of the Dead.' Ok, I bought little speakers to remedy this to a degree. I contacted Gateway on this problem to be completly ignored. Finally, after letting the system hibernate one night, the system would not power up. After investigarion, the motherboard had fried only 30 days out of warantee. Support totally locked me out and they refuse to even talk to me. Had to take it to a shop and they are sending it in with hope they may repair it. Assuming they don't help, I will never buy a Gateway or Acer product again, and I've been a customer since 1992.

  • "This is by far the WORST computer I've ever purchased."
    on by Castonguay80

Pros Cheap. Americanish company. Looks nice. Loads of USB ports.

Cons You get what you pay for. Hard drive failed after only 4 months. Battery builds up static electricity causing it to crash when it sleeps.

Summary Again I will reiterate my statement of you get what you pay for. This definitely applies to the Gateway NV-52. This computer was awful, and I say was because after only 5 months it's completely dead. I will NEVER spend a penny on a Gateway product again. The battery problem was just the beginning and after learning how to fix it the hard drive decided to malfunction. I am a very savvy computer user and could replace the HD, but why....what else will break? Coupled with Windows Vista this machine would win the Fail Olympics decathlon event hands down. Please do not waster your money. Save an extra couple hundred bucks and buy an HP, a Sony, a Mac....anything.

  • "Great value with an interesting design"
    on by rguthmil

Pros Get a lot for a little $

Cons Mouse is located in an unusual spot and full numeric keypad is interesting

Summary Great value for someone who doesn't need the biggest and the best. Mouse location takes some getting used to and the full numeric keypad is interesting (I mean really, do people use these on a laptop?). Processor could use a shot of Red Bull.
