Pros Speed, & Well Built. Runs Photoshop CS2 and all it's parts.
Cons Price and maybe weight
Summary I got my XPS Gen2 about April 8,05. And I didn't buy this LP for Games.
It was mainly bought for the new PhotoShop CS2 Suite and it work great. It seems to be faster than my desk top which is a P4 3.4,2g ram Falcon.
My XPS Gen2 has= M770,2g ram,100g HD.,DVD burner,Centrino 3 band Wireless & Blue Tooth.
The drive was repartition in to three for backups and recovery. I got 18 g bites of Apps. installed and they load fast when called on. The sceen is perfect No Dead Pixs. Just a Fantastic Laptop!
Pros Awsome performance, display and features
Cons Expensive, not as bright as the Toshiba qosmio series
Summary I just got mine 10 days ago and I'm very pleased with this product. All my friends that have seen it so far are like woaaooo! I love the screen and let me just say I'm not experiencing any of the sparkling problems reported by other owners. This laptop will pretty much do anything you throw at it with a take no prisoners approach. I've read lots of benchmarking reviews and this laptop is just moping the floor with the competition. The only reason I didnt give it a 10 was because I think the display could have used a dual lamp system like the Toshiba Qosmio. But overall I'm very happy with it. If you've got the money and want a really good laptop, hey go for it!
Pros Very fast; great in games; audio is exceptional; graphics top of the line; heat management very good; quiet; good wireless
Cons sparkles on LCD
Summary I was very very upset to find a sparkly LCD on my system. It's hard to look at although there is no light leakage and no dead pixels. When doing coding C++ and photoshop the sparkles get on my nerves and bother my eyes. I'm about to return the system for this problem because it's too much money for a poor quality screen that sparkles. Maybe if this system were cheaper it'd help. Performance is top notch especially in games. The weight is light (compared to competitors) and this thing tears apart my desktop! The LED's and build quality get the attention of other people near me and there's a lot of connectivity. I recommend unless you're going to be doing office and graphics work.Updated
According to the Nvidia website they claim I should be getting in excess of 12,000 3dMark03 points. I'm on a fresh install and I'm getting only 11,043 points! On 05 I get 4903 points. That is far lower than what was advertised and reviewed for this system by places like Tom's Hardware. I've come to find out that Dell DOWN-CLOCKED the consumer XPS2! Mine is not clocked at the same speeds review sites have been testing in! I will be on the phone monday (or tuesday if they're off) to complain and demand a return or compensation. This is a rip off. I like this system but I've been lied to and the LCD sparkles cause too much eye strain. It's just not worth it people. Go buy something else. I thought this would be the one, but it doesn't look like it unless they make me happy.
Pros Powerful, gorgeous design, high tech, high quality.
Cons tech supprort (but who has good tech support?)
Summary The new Dell Inspiron XPS Gen 2 has been completely re-designed inside and is a beautiful thing to behold.
A major re-design of the Dell Inspiron XPS Gen 2 is that it is actually thinner and lighter than the previous model.
Another excellent design change is a new cool looking exterior, while still keeping a professional look. There are blue lights behind the grills on this laptop that light up while the machine is booting up. The lid has a brushed metal appearance and the overall design is very sleek and aerodynamic. Looks like something NASA might have designed.
This machine has all the latest and greatest technology: Intel’s Pentium M processor (Dothan); Intel Pentium M 760 (2GHz, 2MB Cache, 533MHz FSB) or an Intel Pentium M 770 (2.13GHz, 2MB Cache, 533MHz FSB) CPU riding on the Intel 915PM chipset; from 512MB up to 2GB of DDR2 RAM; NVIDIA’s GeForce Go 6800 series mobile graphics chipset; Wide-Aspect screen at 17”.
The comprehensive unit has DVI and VGA connectors,S-Video, IEEE-1394 FireWire port, 6-USB 2.0 ports, an RJ-11 modem port, an RJ-45 Ethernet port. an IrDA port, and audio jacks.
You can even get a 8x CD/DVD Burner saddled onto this horse!
Final analysis: SIMPLY THE BEST LAPTOP EVER CREATED.
Pros Pentium M 2 Ghz!, 1 gb RAM, 60 GB Ultra ATA Hard drive, NVidia GeForce 6800 Go Ultra, 17.4" Widescreen
Cons One year warranty, costly, big.
Summary This laptop shines in every way, but the 17.4" Ultra Widescreen and the NVidia GeForce 6800 Go Ultra set it apart from anything else out there. The resolution on Dell's screen is unsurpassed, and the video card is, to date, cutting edge. The visuals on this gamer's dream machine are unbelievable. The power behind this visual delight drives this powerhouse to do anything you'd want it to. Incredible laptop! My only problem has been finding a backpack to fit it in.
