DELL rep updated me that ina lot they have all 15z mislabel'ed with 1080 p...where as in reality they are 720 p screens...pls chk !!!
Pros More under the hood than the Mac Book Pro with a visually stunning true HD screen. Quality built with a reasonable price tag (Is a Mac Book Pro really worth $800 more?). Well done Dell!
Cons I've had the XPS 15z for three days now, and I've yet to find anything I didn't like it about it. Speed, screen resolution, graphics card, 8gigs of RAM, well constructed aluminum body, key board and pad...i can't say enough...WOW!
Summary I love this XPS 15z ! It has that something special. Sleek, cool, thin, and PC based, giving me all the computer flexibility, with great battery life. What a great value, too with these specs! PC Mag is right...The XPS 15z is an Editors Choice!
Pros 1080 WLED monitor is amazing. System is fast and powerful.
Cons fan noise, overheating on left side during game play, wireless problems (google it), and (sniff sniff) the motherboard died. Headache to get it fixed. DELL you need stores.
Summary It was just too early for DELL to attempt to make thinnest PC... In short look at other models or wait for the 2nd or 3rd generation.
The tech bent the shell fixing it and then told me the shell needed replacing.... ie more work was required. Long story short I am requesting my money back... The tech also informed me that the bottom shell is not very drop friendly because it is aluminum and can bend resulting in a short.
Pros Bang for the buck, powerful, and other fluff (nice screen, good speakers, light weight for size, etc.)
Cons HATE the keyword (very poor userability, flimsy, and uncomfortable for those using laptop for long hours), left side getting warm (had lots of fan problems with earlier xps as well), and not as fast as I thought it would be.
Summary I purchased mine at costco and while today is only day 2, I foresee myself returning it. The keyboard is driving me crazy. It's uncomfortable and not user friendly for heavy users. I had the earlier version xps which had lots of problems but the keyboard was not this annoying. Aside from missing keys when typing, it's just giving my wrist and hand cramps when typing. I was deciding between this and macbook pro so I am now seriously contemplating returning this and getting the macbook pro. The keyboard is getting more annoying as I type this and the heat on the left side reminds me of my earlier xps which had countless fan issues. I really want a stylish pc with power and great userability. This keyboard and fan issue is a deal breaker for me.
Pros Nice looks!
Cons hard drive issues!
Summary Been a Dell customer for over Seven years and have owned couple of other XPS's in the past, I was pretty excited when I got my 15Z. Unfortunately the first machine had all sorts of issues ... hours on the phone and re-installs later - Dell sent me a tech to replace the hard disk: the guy did not know how to open the machine (apparently Dell hadn't circulated the instruction on the newer models yet) - spent another hour with the Dell folks and they said - sorry will send you a replacement.
Three days later - I get the replacement - I boot it up, open ie and ie crashes, every time! spend couple hours with the Dell tech guys on the phone - he downgrades the ie to ver. 8 in hopes of fixing it and that's when I smell something from the machine (burning smell - no smoke) - we disconnect the power cable and they say that they will send someone to fix it ... by this time - I had enough and returned the device!
I might have been plain unlucky with Dell - now I have ordered a Macbook Pro 15" (cost me an arm) but am very happy with it!
