  • "This is the best all-around laptop out there right now."
    on by Omnicrono

    Pros -High quality construction
    -Incredibly sleek design (Apple doesn't own the rights on "sleek")
    -Blu ray
    -Great Dell support
    -Very reasonable price (especially compared to the similar-sized Macbook Pro, which offers less overall functionality)

    Cons The keys could have been made bigger, and I don't have fat fingers by any means. Along with that, there's that dead space on the sides... which one would think could have been utilized to make a bigger keyboard.

    Summary I've seen the researched Macbooks, Lenovos, HPs, Alienwares, and right on down the line. Dell's new XPS 15 delivers quality in spades on all fronts, whereas most other offerings are far more hit-and-miss. Top notch materials were used in construction, and you get bevvy of features... and more versatility... than you would with any Macbook (e.g. blu ray playback if you want it, it's good for art intensive programs such as Maya, light enough for students on the go, can upgrade to ssd drive and 16gb ram, solid graphics card for next-gen gaming, etc.)

  • "Faulty, defective Wifi and USB 3.0."
    on by jamestheuser

    Pros None. This is without a doubt the worst computer you can purchase. I have no idea why people are giving this positive reviews.

    Cons 1. Wifi is defective
    2. the defective Wifi CAN NOT BE FIXED -
    3. USB 3.0 conflicts with sound production
    4. Dell customer support - they continue to sell this even though they know it is defective

    Summary Purchased this computer as a high-end, laptop for use in music recording. Without a doubt, the biggest mistake i ever made. I wish I looked into this more. Please Note:
    1) the Wifi is FAULTY in this machine. Dell knows this and has known it for ages, yet continue to sell the computer. the Wifi doesn't work, regardless if they say they "Update" the drivers. it is NOT a driver issue. I spent over 15 hours on with tech support, some at Dell even admit this. The offered me to Replaed the Wifi Modem, i did. STILL DOES NOT WORK. It cuts in and out, poor signal, etc. Dell basically gave me the run around, telling me to update drivers/replace/etc and then, the admitted (the tech support) that there is a problem, yet REFUSE to refund/exchange the computer.
    2. The hardware/USB 3.0 and wifi are conflicting and cause major sound production issues. You can't use this for sound production and even when listening to simple things like Itunes, you hear clicks, clips, etc. Awful...There is no fix for this.

    PLEASE DO NOT BUY. Dell knows this is a problem, yet continue to sell this and tell people it can be fixed. Do a search online, you'
    ll see that everyone is having this problem and there is no fix.

  • "How did this device pass Quality Control test?"
    on by donperry1

    Pros Has a nice processor, sleek finish. Thin laptop

    Cons 1. Wifi connection issues - It may not work with your roter due to the poor centrino wireless

    2. Screen is hideous! - Google search DELL XPS gridlines and click the first link

    Summary Do not buy this laptop, it looks good on the outside but doesn't perform well in all areas. Also the screen is not acceptable

  • "Why why WHY didn't I heed the reviews?"
    on by jcorgidog

    Pros Beautiful design, well constructed and sturdy. Has a high end feel.

    Cons WiFi is horrible. Ten times slower than my 5 year old machine, limited range within the house.

    Summary I had to be stubborn and order this model to replace an aging XPS M1530. (Of course, having a robust available balance with Dell Financing did have something to do with it!) Surely, I thought, Dell would make a correction to this new model following consumer after consumer's WiFi complaints. I waited until I saw the first favorable review with a positive comment about WiFi and jumped on it. That was a mistake. One of the most frustrating things is how Dell customer service reps either profess no knowledge of a problem and try to put you through their flow chart of troubleshooting fixes, or they acknowledge that there is a known issue and they STILL try to troubleshoot the problem! Is Dell skirting the issue because they're financially committed to thousands of faulty WiFi cards and are unwilling to dump them in a recycling bin? Are tradditional laptops now at risk because of the advent of Windows 8 and they don't want to bother with the expense to fix an already outdated machine? All conjecture forced on us because Dell is being silent on the issue.

  • "Exceptional Build Quality and Fast"
    on by drkblaydz

    Pros Design is beautiful, aluminum casing, slightly darker than a MacBook Pro -- it is clear that Dell spared no expense in the design and manufacturing;

    Cons Hardware to hardware, other notebooks can be purchased cheaper for the same components; Thin but heavy; Battery not externally replaceable;

    Summary Pros con't: Battery life is better than expected; Screen is amazing and the Gorilla Glass makes it extremely durable; Runs games like a champ, even at high res; Customer Support has responded to every email and call with at least one phone call; Includes 1 year In-Home warranty with Accidental Damage Protection; Smart response + 7200 rpm hdd (thank you Dell for not taking the easy way out ad pairing the ssd with a cheap 5400 rpm ssd) is acceptably fast coming from someone who has only ssds in everything else;

    Cons con't: No mid-range option with only SSD (This is 2012, do they really still make internal HDDs? You can buy a 256 gb SSD for $150...) which should be standard with a $1699 notebook; Dell website is horrible -- just call to place an order and you'll get a better deal anyway.

    First, many people have complained about a wireless issue with this -- I have experienced no such issue, I actually get better reception than my other laptop or phone. Upon delivery, I immediately updated my drivers from Dell's site for all hardware and have experienced no issues. It could be a stock driver problem, but always keep you system up to date; I'm just sayin'; Also, I called instead of ordering online and asked for discounts every step of the way -- they gave me a $200 Dell gc, a $90 Dell gc, free 2 day shipping, and $100 off the 3 year In-Home warranty w/ ADH (which brought it to the same price as HP's Envy warranty, but the build quaity of the XPS is FAR superior to the Envy.
