"Backlit died after 10 hours of use. Runs extremely hot"
on by loki_racerPros It's a decent laptop. Nothing magical.
Cons 1. The backlit died after about 10 to 15 hours of use.
2. Runs very hot.
3. Trackpad is wonky and clicks loudly.
4. Can't open the screen very far.Summary I've had this laptop for a few weeks now. It's a replacement to the Alienware M11x that USPS lost while being shipped back to me from Dell warranty repair. I use it for traveling and for emergency work if my home office losses internet or power.
The backlit has failed about about 10 to 15 hours of use. Search youtube for Dell XPS 13 backlit failure for a video of this. Dell wants me to pay to return it for warranty work because they do not have techs in my area.
If you use this on anything other than a hard surface, be prepared to be able to cook a steak on it. It runs extremely hot. The fan noise issue was resolved with the latest BIOS updates, which I have installed, so noise isn't an issue for me.
The trackpad, while being large, is very wonky. Clicking it is fairly loud which is an issue if I'm trying to use it while my wife is sleeping.
Overall, I'm sorely disappointed in the purchase. I would expect one of Dell's top of the line laptops to work without having to be returned within a few weeks of purchase. Sure it's a minor item that is broken, but it is one of the main selling points for me. -
"clean hardware and impressive software"
on by del_alt_ctrlPros Hardware
- very light
- intuitive design
- display is very rich and bright
- multi-touch touchpad gestures
Software
- impressive speed
*have not played around much with Dell software but the camera central seems nice*Cons Hardware
- hard to open (requires two hands)
- port availability
Software
- had a bunch of not useful freeware that needed to be removed, but don't they allSummary All in all a very good piece of hardware and impressive software (1st HDD so gauge impressiveness accordingly). It is a fair price for the value compared to similar ultrabooks on the market and I believe Dell got it right on this one.

"Great laptop with mobility and performance to compete."
on by DeltaDudePros +Design, carbon fiber bottom feels great, soft touch rubber for the palm rest is very comfortable.
+Performance is very fast and snappy, opening multiple web pages and tabs along side editing PDF files while watching an HD video, ran very smooth.Cons -The screen isn't a higher resolution, but I'm not paying a hundred or more dollars just for a high resolution screen.
-Dell's driver's from their website are crap, don't install them.Summary I spend many many hours researching what Ultra book to buy. I'm a student so that means a lot of moving around campus and a lot of typing. Now that school has pretty much moved online I needed an upgrade from my 4 year old laptop. The XPS 13 offered performance and mobility at a price that was very reasonable. Many sites say the Asus UX-31 is the best Ultra book but in my experience the Asus has a sub par keyboard and while the screen is a higher resolution it didn't look better. I'm a Windows person but that doesn't mean I'm opposed to Apple, they make one hell of a product and I tip my hat to them.
If anyone has any questions regarding the Dell XPS 13 please comment and I will reply. -
"Very Nice rival for Apple"
on by mimzy57Pros Extraordinary sound for a netbook, full and clear make this a dream to watch videos on.
Small thin and light
Backlit keyboard is great! and useful
Boot and resume speed phenomenal.Cons Fast access useless (face recognition program)
Touchpad overly sensitive while typingSummary I bought this on a whim but am so glad that I did, fits in my purse or carried with books effortlessly. I find the screen quality to be great and the sound capabiliity to be amazing.
