Pros Surfs internet fine, but random power downs in Excel are unacceptable. I am happy to report that my brand new $399 ACER works great with Excel and everything else unlike the Dell Studio. Dells are now high-cost throwaway laptops.
Cons Google "Studio 15 random power". After posting my problem I received dozen other complaints from Studio owners of same problem. There is a design problem with video-replacing HW wont help). Dell refuses to help without paying even under warranty.
Summary Dell deceives it's customers and doesn't help it's customers when their brand new laptops are faulty. Search on "Dell lawsuit" or "Dell deceipt" and you'll see the pattern. After buying 5 Dell computers over the past 15 years I'll never buy another dell.
Pros I couldn't say really, because I have not received the computer yet.
Cons Whatever you do, don't believe what Dell tells you about the delivery date for your computer. If you are OK waiting a few months, it might be OK. But if you'd like to have your new computer sooner, I wouldn't recommend ordering with Dell.
Summary The customer service is really terrible. When I found the first person I spoke to unhelpful, I asked to speak to a manager. I was told that no manager was available, but I would receive a call within 24 hours, and I never received the call!!
Pros None. I still don't have it.
Cons The delivery has been delayed by more than 1 month. They keep waiting until almost the delivery date and then telling me that it is delayed. And I STILL don't have it.
Summary Their customer service has been terrible. They can't do anything to compensate me for the delays, and they tell me to "rest assured" that the delivery dates are real, but then it gets delayed again!
Pros I bought the product because I had a high opinion of Dell, it was priced well, and I liked the design
Cons The computer doesn't function reliably and the company offers no free assistance with the problem.
Summary I purchased a brand new unit directly frm Dell and within a week or two, I noticed that the keyboard response was failing. When keys are struck, they failed to register. This makes typing almost impossible. Dell claims this is a software problem but refuses to give out any further information. You can contact their online software support line which can improve system peformance for a week or two, but it costs 90$ per session. They even charge 90$ to download MS 7 which was supposed to be done for free when I purchased the unit. I have now spent 1500$ on a new computer that is WORTHLESS. Stay away from this product and Dell!
Pros Big battery, decent sound, sleek look.
Cons Poor quality LCD- Failed early, Sound issues that forced restart, overheating, flimsy lid/LCD, Only 3 USB, LCD contacted the Palm Rest and scratched the LCD, and the fact that Dell support is off shore.
Summary I received this Studio 1555 as a system exchange and Dell did give me several upgrades, but given all the issues, I would have rather had my old one. After only 2 months the LCD panel developed a line from top to bottom, it took 3 hours on the phone with dell to convince them that it was a bad panel. They fixed that, but the new panel gets scratched when the lid is closed. There was always a sound issue, first a Motor Boating sound as you closed the lid and the sound would stop which would freeze the system. I would not recommend this for anyone simply because for that kind of money, you can buy a much better quality unit and have peace of mind knowing it is not problematic.
