"great inexpensive computer!!"

5 stars  | on by howdude230

Pros

cheap, well made (for the money you paid) good display, easy upgrades as all needed components are under one panel. never fails me, great battery life, i love the battery mode which disables things like windows aero, optical drives webcam

Cons

flimsy feeling keyboard but i got used to it quickly the only one problem i have had only sometimes is the display flickers after changing resultions for games or whatever. restart fixes it totally, so maybe a video driver fault.

i bought this one on new egg for 400$ and was happy with it at first for basic tasks, nothing hard core. i upgraded the processor to an intel i580 and it runs amazing. i have also upgraded the memory to 8gb and a bluburner. this is an amazing machine. well built and i have a great laptop that was upgraded as i could afford parts. it doesn't look like 3000$ machine but sure runs like one. i don't recommend buying and keeping it stock unless all you plan to do is microsoft word and checking email. this was a great machine to upgrade. only thing that isn't amazing is the video card, but then again i didn't purchase this to play crysis II although that game somewhat runs. this is not a gaming rig, don't buy it expecting it to be. you get what you pay for

if you buy a refurbished pc keep in mind is refurbished. on first boot of windows 7 home premium (upgraded to pro) i was asked to create recovery discs. please make these disks before using the computer in case it fails. that's what they are there for. burn them slowly at like 2x to do it correctly the first time.

Pros

cheap product

Cons

Bought the refurbished product online and ran into blue screens from time to time close to 3 months period (sometime in August). Finally the blue-screen situation got out of hands and I had to restore the system. Did so by following their e-manual and s

To sum up, my complaints against Asus are:
1. After regular usage, product started to show signs of failure within 3 months warranty, but Asus refuse to repair for me as I had barely missed the warranty period when I reported the issue;
2. No recovery disk was included during the purchase; and their recovery file which is supposed to work in this case did not;
3. Customer support did not help me with the issue (as now I am stuck with a piece of junk which cannot be rebooted).
4. I asked to speak to a supervisor and got promise by the first rep that someone will call me back in one day, but that never happened.
Lessons learnt, and I will tell my experience with Asus to everyone I know for the rest of my life.
