Pros Battery Life, Core i5 CPU blazes through rendering videos, 4GB RAM, Runs really cool during light use, Nice software tweaks to the OS.
Cons Still expensive, can't seem to get the HDMI audio out working (its not just me either).
Summary I upgraded from a Late 2008 Unibody MacBook which only had a 2Ghz Core 2 Duo. I have recently got into film editing and going from the MacBook to this MacBook Pro is like Day and Night. I can scream through an encoding in less than 15-20 mins. Whereas it took me about an hour before.
These new MacBook Pros also have the software tweaks to OS X making it a little more visually pleasing. Such as inertial scrolling. I love the feature, I just wish it did the *bounce* when you reach the end of a page like the iPhone does.
Also the dimming controllers for the backlit keyboard and display have been tuned to give a nice fading when changing brightness. Not a huge change, but a welcome one.
The move of the wifi antennas did extend range. I used to only pick up a couple wifi spots, now I am picking up about 4 in my surrounding area.
Overall i'm pleased with the upgrades Apple incorporated into these laptops. Well designed and well made. Just wish it didn't cost you an arm and a leg.
Pros The Macbook Pro is simply amazing! It's fast, loaded with features and it does not disappoint when it comes to the style and look.
Cons None at all!!
Summary I was so confused as to what size of the Macbook Pro to get. I really wanted something I could do tons of work on while at the same time have the joy of portability. So I went with the 15in and it is totally the right size for me!!! Get you a Mac Now!!!!
Pros - Fantastic battery life
- Super fast and crisp NVIDIA graphics
- Blazing Core i5 processor
- OS X 10.6
- SDXC card slot
- multi-touch trackpad
Cons - $1799 price tag pretty high for just 2.4 GHz
Summary This is my 8th Mac!!!! Been a happy user for 15 years! So I'll admit I'm biased. However, there's a reason I've been using macs that long. Bought it in replacement for my older 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo Black MacBook. Though the clock speed is the same on both I got a huge boost in speed. I'm still reeling from the graphics, the LED-backlit LCD, the auto backlit keyboard, the unibody style, etc. What's not to like?
I saw some people mentioning they wish there was blu-ray and HDMI.
1. I'm pretty sure Apple is going to skip Blu-Ray because the world is already favoring online streaming on HD content rather than on a removable disc for lots of different reasons. Although Sony is an innovator and they deserve credit for Blu-Ray, it's probably not going to be the future of HD.
2. The Mini DisplayPort that's on every Mac is HDMI compatible and with a $30 Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter you can get full 1080p resolution with multichannel audio coming out of that tiny port. Why don't they just have HDMI built in? Because a single HDMI output wouldn't be compatible DVI-D and VGA, which are still used a lot in projectors and external monitors and adding multiple display ports would just add unnecessary size and weight.
Pros Just works
Great battery life
Great performance since the software and hardware are optimized for each other
Can run OS X and Windows 7
Automatic graphics switching and good discrete gpu
Packaged with iLife
Perfect keyboard and touchpad
Cons Pricey (but definitely worth it)
No blu-ray or hdmi (though i don't use either of them anyway)
Summary Most laptops make compromises (e. g. short battery life, cramped keyboard and touchpad, low resolution screen, older processor, slow hard drive, etc...), but Apple's Macbook Pro does not. It costs significantly more than the competition, but is worth it.
Pros Very, very fast machine
Graphics are impressive
Battery life is the best I've seen on any laptop
Screen is rich and detailed
Cons Non-removable battery may irk some, but I personally prefer longer battery life to carrying around an extra
Glossy display is a personal preference (I'd opt for the higher resolution/antiglare model)
Summary Coming from a mixed background of PCs and Macs, I can tell you hands down this is the best laptop I have ever owned, and possibly the best on the market right now. Yes there are computers with better individual specs, and it's certainly not the cheapest laptop on the market, but I can tell you that it is well worth the cost and it performs better than any other machine I have tried. The battery life is absolutely amazing?I can get through a whole day of work without having to plug it in (and that's with moderate to heavy usage). I'm not a gaming freak, but I do work with photoshop video editing and ever since the macbook pro, it's been a breeze. Applications load the second I click them and media playback is superb. An all around great laptop with virtually no flaws.
