Pros Amazingly fast, Faster RAM is a big Upgrade, Sexy design, New keyboard really easy to type on. Trackpad so much simpler, Screen is simply gorgeus.
Summary This is the best laptop i have ever owned. as a lifetime PC owner i was a little concerned about the switch to mac but i have to say it's much simpler and faster than any other laptop. At my job i have had the chance to work with hundreds of laptops and that is why i wanted to switch to mac. the state of current laptops is horrendous. overpowered, battery consuming GPU's in 1.5 inch cases do not spell good. I have had many users come in with parts of their computers melting. This laptop is blazingly fast and top of the line, I can play any game i want without any hiccups will doing many other things. I shall never go back.
Pros -Better graphics
-Faster processor capabilities
-Larger HD capacities
-option of SSD drive
-Multi touch trackpad
-LED backlit display (not a new feature)
Cons -No Firewire 400
-Continued lack of USB ports
-No longer available in Matte screen finish
-No large distinguishing characteristics between Pro and standard models
Summary I was very surprised with the direction that Steve Jobs and Apple took with the Macbook Pro line. I was expecting the edition of a blu-ray disc drive. I love my current Macbook Pro, and when I upgrade I am going to be very reluctant to purchase the new model. The loss of the Firewire 400 port renders a few of my components useless. As a lighting designer and audio engineer, the limitation of the glossy finish display limits my ability to work where ever I am. It is very difficult to draft in VectorWorks and AutoCAD when I cant see my screen because of glare.
Overall, I am very disappointed with Apple's decisions.
Pros It is very fast
Graphics card is much improved
much more sturdy than the old polycarbonate/plastic macbooks and macbook pros
horrible mouse/track pad button
swapping from one graphics card to the other requires a restart
Summary Much impoved graphics... very solid machine with no flex at all so you don't feel like it will bend in your hands if you pick it up by one side. You likely know the good things about a macbook pro, so let me simply give you the things you might have issue with.
The new no button trackpad. it really isn't a no button track pad its a track pad that pivots down to become one huge button. Yes it looks nice, but it is clearly a style over function. A simple two buttons added to this laptop would have made it much more functional and lowered the amount of crack space to allow dirt into the macbook itself, having opened my to remove the battery you see lots of dust and dirt slips between the edges of the mouse/track pad which only happens because the whole thing is one giant button. The button also makes a loud click when you use it. This isn't a problem unless you are trying to use the computer during meetings in which case it is a bit too loud and can generate unwanted attention.
The computer is very slippery. pulling it out of a computer bag it has more than one time slipped back in from my fingers because it is so slick. It might look cool but it would have been more functional if the aluminum case was textured more (it would also have been better at reducing the heat).
The last thing I've noticed is that it will sometimes lock up for no reason whatsoever, not just during some heavy rendering but can do so when you are simply using safari... and when it locks up you have to remove the battery... the power button becomes useless. Hopefully the stability issues can be addressed, its running snow leopard now and even after a fresh install it has done the lock up for no reason.
Pros Attractive design, good processor
Cons Lack of standard features found on computers that cost less than half as much such as firewire, card reader, express card. Inferior security compaired to Windows counterparts, expensive, no matt screen option, many other problems....
Summary The new Macbook has a great look and design, even if it is a bit sterile and boring. However, the computer it's self is rediculously overpriced and is completely lacking in features. What's more, security is taken far too lightly by Apple. Updates are only issued after extreeme delays. Trojan viruses are increasingly common and Apple refuses to even acknowledge their existance, taking down posts people make compaling of the problem. The computer it's self has good hardware, what little hardware it has. The problem is that you can get a better computer in every way for a lot less money. Want a sexy computer that doesn't have viruses or a pompus arrogant company behind it? Go with a Lenovo Ideapad. Want to throw away money on a computer that won't do what you want and constantly requires adapters and special, propriatery hard ware? Go Apple.
