Pros speed, excellent software, ablity to run windows & a beautiful screen

Cons price is steep...but you get what you pay for

Summary I recently made the big switch from pc to mac, and I have absolutely no regrets. This machine makes it a joy to work in the day, and a pleasure to do normally mundane tasks. Customer Service has been superb, and I've seen no crashes in 2 months. Battery life is astounding for its power and size and peripherals are a breeze to set up.

I cannot think of anything negative thus far except that it hits the pocketbook a bit hard. I have also been using parallels to operate my windows based software, and am astounded by it.

The firewire ports, along with iMovie, iDVD software have made transferring and editing movies easy and fun. The system is also well integrated from software to software and with .mac. I cannot recommend this product more and am not one to give out perfect scores, but this MacBook Pro deserves a 10.

    110 percent satisfied!

  • "Excellent laptop - still a little expensive..."
    on by jcpole

Pros Great screen, fast DVD drive, all important features are in there...

Cons Price is on the high side, Buying from CompUSA is a mistake

Summary I bought this laptop to replace my PowerBook G4. The screen on the MacBook Pro is brighter, and much more easily viewed for long periods of time. Unlike most PC laptops, Apple doesn't load the hard drive with junk, so the usable capacity was also very good. Using Parallels Desktop, the virtual operating systems run just as well as, if not better, than the same OS on dedicated hardware. This is an excellent laptop, and I highly recommend it. It's not going to outperform an XPS M1710, but it's great for business users and consultants.

  • "Thanks Apple!!"

Pros Great machine, perfect as a desktop replacement

    Cons Hard to find actually.

Summary I am a PC user period. At work everything runs on Windows. Always envied the Apple Notebooks for their design and ease of use. The virtual PC was a poor platform to run Windows. Now with the MacPro based on Intel chip set and the boot camp my wishes have been realized. The performance is truly spectacular and sometimes I pinch myself that I am using a Mac. The only grouse is that the boot camp does not support the automatic backlight feature of the keyboard.

    THANKS APPLE!!!!

  • "High End Laptop - Name a feature and it's got it."
    on by wjanoch

Pros All the conictivity you will find in a laptop

Cons 17" screens are almost too big, even this well designed mac.

Summary I have 2 coming for customers this week, but for now, suffice it to say that they are HIGH END laptops. If you want general purpose get a Macbook, not Macbook PRO.

It's about completeness. You buy this laptop and you won't be suffering from lack of features and options. It has it all. Built in CAMERA, Infrared Remote, DL DVD Burner, WiFi G, Bluetooth ERD 2.0, SATA HD, 256MB Video RAM, 17" Apple Pro LCD, Analog & Digital Audio IN & OUT, Backlit Keyboard, Gigabit, Dual Link DVI, FW 800, USB 2.0, and MagSafe power connector... did I miss anything?

General Purpose? You've got to be kidding!

And before anyone tries to point out some supposed lack of software, save it for a Windows vs MacOS war and keep in mind this will run windows either natively or virtually at near native speed (speaking from experience), but I'm talking about the hardware in this review.

Oh, and the 15" Macbook Pro I setup last week rocks too. Unless you need/want the extra screen size, it's almost the same bang for many fewer bucks.

  • "Wonderful machine"

Pros Sleek design and very fast

Cons A bit pricey but well worth it

Summary This is my first Mac after switching to PC's 15 years ago. I have almost forgotten why people love mac's so much and I'm beginning to understand why.

Aside from the great specs on this machine. Apple comes with Ilife that allows you to do almost everything from your mac. I love the Iphoto picture book. I gave them away as gifts last Christmas and my friends love it.

Everything on the mac is so easy to use. I was ablr to burn a DVD movie in about 30 minutes just followingthe prompts.

Performance wise this is a very fast machine.

In the looks category nothing out there comes close to the minimalist design and the great aluminum case. It would be nice if they came in Ipod colors too.

The MacBook may be a better alternative if you want to save $1000 though.
