Pros Too many to list, just read reviews
Cons Known system crashes (kernel panic) when connected to non-apple wifi routers
Summary I bought this very machine just days ago and have experienced many system crashes whereby one must reboot the system -- these are called "kernel panics" in Apple jargon. This happened 4 times in 24 hours. Another person I know has had the same problem and has spent 2 weeks on the phone with AppleCare. After doing hours of research on the net it appears to be a WELL KNOWN BUG in these new Macbooks that causes the system to crash on non-Apple wireless routers, what Apple calls their Airport. Don't take my word for it, do a search on google for "kernel panics macbook wifi airport intel" without the quotes. MacForums has a great thread pertaining to this. This is WIDESPREAD and KNOWN so if you want to buy this Macbook to connect to the internet wherever you may be, think again. If you have an Apple Airport router at your home then you will be ok. This is a major problem and there have been many many complaints on internet forums about this. Check it out.
Pros Speed, inexpensive memory upgrade (DIY), Lot's of fun, packed with apps
Cons Can't think of any...
Summary I've been in IT for close to 20 years and have experience in UNIX (4 flavors), Linux, Windows, and now Mac os.
Gotta say this os 10.4 is pretty cool.
Very fast, it's got some great tools for users from web design to music making with Garage Band. All included. I downloaded Neo Office and love it. It's free, it's easy, it's a no brainer. Don't have a need to purchase ms office.
This thing boots up quick, runs apps smoothly, and has lots of bells and whistles (liking the widgets, especially the eBay fanatic). I got the 2.16 for the DVD burner more than anything else, but the extra harddrive space and cpu speed are pretty nice to have.
Upgrading memory from 1gb to 2gb looks simple and costs less than $90. I'll probably need that when I start burning my old VHS home movies to DVD on this laptop.
I couldn't be happier that my brother turned me to the "Dark Side" of Macs.
I'm not a Mac or MS hater. As I mentioned, I have worked as an admin on just about every os out there so I have some experience as a user and administrator.
With that said, I feel each os has its' ups and downs, its' goods and bads. But the mac just seems to make things easier and faster to do. It does have it's problems and limitations, but I've been able to resolve them fairly quickly. If I can get the Tivo Desktop to work all will be well.
I don't play video games on my pc's, that's what my xbox360, xbox, gamecube, and playstaion are for.
Pros Fast, lots of hard drive space
Cons No cons for this computer
Summary Very good computer if you want to buy a mac buy this one or one similar.
Pros great speed, perfect for class, thin, light weight, magsafe power cord
Cons no mobile express card port, sounds ok but tiny speakers,
Summary I have the Apple Macbook (Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, SuperDrive DVD, white) and i love this little laptop i have all the speed and space of the pro, but not for a pro price... I have used a pro several times before and the only things I would change would be, is the spacing of the ports on the side, and a memory card reader would be great, and a mobile express card port...
Pros Great battery life, lite, small, convienant,
Cons no backspace button
Summary I've had my macbook for about almost two weeks and it worked flawless with my canon camera and camcorder ( no need to install any of the software that came with it). compatiable on my linksys router and connection was very simple it picked up the connection quickly. came with pretty much all the software on.
it came if with Mac verison of MS office trail but I unistalled it don't need it, i bought the new version of iwork 08 (came with 06 allready on) and i used NeoOffice - which is free by the way to download.
Haven't found a good free web editor that is like Dreamweaver, but no such luck. However i'm not tanking anything off from the rating because of that.
Great for the student who had two to three hour lecutures it can still have battery power from 8:30am till about 1 to 1:30. depends how long it is on though.
Mac OS X didn't take very long to get used to. after about the fourth day i getting around without the use of the book i bought to help me in the transition.
I'm a writer too so I'm very familiar with using the backspace button. it gets some getting used to not having the backspace button but again it is nothing to dock the rating for. the delete key works just as good, in fact i don't even notice that often that I'm using it.
Other then that...I will definitely not be going back to using Windows on a PC. see ya later Microsoft. ^_^
Well unless i don't have my computer and i have no choice but to use a pc then i will have too.
