Pros This was my first Apple computer, and i have to say, the switch was much less painful than I tought it would be. Apple's mail, address book, the safari browser, calendar, etc. all beat their windows counterparts. This G3 800 is perfect for basic use - wor on September 1, 2004 | Read full review

Pros Very good laptop with an average battery life of about 4 hours. I highly recomend upgrading the RAM because 128MB is hardly enough. Adding an AirPort card is also recomended so you can use it cable free. The airport is a great feature so you can run w on December 6, 2003 | Read full review

"A great deal"
onSummary This is a great laptop. It can boot OS 9 and OS X. The battery is endless
It's not too hot after hours. Far better than the powerbook 12" (called firebook). -
"Great Unix notebook at a great price."
onSummary I've never been a fan of apple. Even though their OS, in my opinion, puts other "modern" unix veriants to shame (like linux) their hardware has always been WAY over priced. Now, with the $999 ibook, that has changed. I bought my 12-inch i book about 2 months ago. Even though it's a slug compared to my 2.4 ghz windows machine, i cannot stop useing my ibook. It's somuch fun, and the OS is like an italian car. It's just so damb pretty! I was looking at other laptops, like the lindows subnotebook fot $799. for the extra 200, you get a more powerfull CPU (G3 smokes the via cpu) and nicer looking case, and a better OS. Oh, and don't forget the great apple software apps. There simply isn't a good multimedia solution for Linux yet. Even KDE 3.1 doesn't have that "it just works" philosophy yet. With OSX, you get all you GCC and posix programs, X11, etc. But you also get the slickest GUI mankind has ever created. Nuff said.

"It just keeps on working"
onSummary As the manager of a combat documentation unt in the US military, money isn't really a problem for equipment. But I've taken thee iBooks to two wars now, Afghanistan and Iraq, and they just keep working when faster, more expensive PC laptops crash and die due to the dust and rugged use. The iBooks' cases are sealed, the power supply switches voltages automaticly, and OS 10.2 seamlessly integrates into the Windows 2000 server environment. Even had the network control center PC wonks drooling over them. Definate winner!

"Glad I waited ..."
onSummary Now that Apple lowered the price on the 800 Mhz iBook (I paid $1200 @ MacMall, which included a 256 MB RAM upgrade), it's a great value. I LOVE this computer. Light, fast, durable, and stylish.

"This is perfect for a student..."
onSummary I just purchased a new 12" Combo Drive iBook with a 900Mhz G3 Processor, and it is wonderful. It runs great, and has never crashed. I love the features of Mac OS X. The only thing that I would recommend is upgrade the RAM to at least 256 MB. It is a little slow on multi-tasking. I know it is a little pricey for a notebook, but it is an apple, so you pay for what you get. Overall, I would recommend this completely. Apple, I give it a 10.

"Great value, superb OS, fast machine"
onSummary I have the 14" 800 model, tricked out with 640 mgb ram. It is fast, solid and so easy to use. OSX is more than just gorgeous eye-candy: it's rock solid, responsive, and totally modern. Compared to the Classic OS and Windows XP, it blows them both out of the water. Add in AppleScript, UNIX underpinnings, complete (and great) software bundle, and you have the complete solution for almost anyone. High end users, i.e. video pros, would probably be better off with the G4 series. The rest of you will be quite happy with the iBook!

"From web surfing to video editing, iBook has it all!"
onSummary Although I've only had my 800MHz 14.1" iBook for two weeks, I can honestly say that it was the best gift I have ever received. OS X is stable, offers an easy learning curve for long-time PC users and is more intuitive than any other OS I have ever tried. It's also more stable and more aesthetically pleasing, which are very important characteristics when it comes to high usage. The iMovie and iTunes packages are incredible and Safari makes the best web browsing experience I've ever witnessed. Performance is superb, the LCD is of incredible quality and the Combo drive is a MUST. DVD movies look incredible on the 14.1" screen and CDs burn quickly and reliably. My iBook is my new best friend and I recommend it to anyone looking for a compact, high-quality and reliable notebook.

"If you can handle the switch!"
onSummary Owned our 12" 700Mhz ibook over 8 months and love it. Use it to showcase photos of home interiors for clients. Have a little concern for the newer cases as they look a little plasticy and the G3 is getting fairly long in the tooth (new 12" powerbook is the bomb). Only condition is the Mac run apps you use and you invest time learning the operating system which takes time especially if porting over from windose. Go to your nearest Apple Retail Store and spend a couple hours taking one for a test drive. Also be sure to load up on ram and get the airport card, but install it yourself.

"I too made the switch from PC"
onSummary I have been a windows user all of my life and just bought an iBook 900MHz. While I wanted the Powerbook, I am comppletely satisfied with my purchase. This laptop has it all: performance, style, ease of use, and bestg of all no blue screen of death. I have already downloaded and use Safari (apples web browser ) It is leaps and bounds above anything else out there. The X11 environment also allows me run my remote applications on a linux box in another state. This combined with airport card makes this a awesome laptop for a decent price. Its not the cheapest one out there but for what I spent on it I am completely satisfied. The only downside is the rumor of a G5 processor being released in the near future,
