"Decent Notebook, BAD SUPPORT and wrong specs"

4 stars  | on by biztastic

Pros

Great Price
Dual Core is very powerful
lightweight and decent life on the battery.

Cons

Acer does not have the correct drivers on their site,
Acer does not support their customers
It is very hard to find drivers for this machine especially the AMD chipset
The specs are incorrect, the RAM is ddr2 PC2-5300 333Mhz not 667Mhz, best buy lies

Summary

I purchased this notebook used from Best Buy, it is a nice notebook but it is a lot of foot work to find the drivers as Best Buy did not sell the OS or recovery disk with it which I do not blame Best Buy as they were selling it "... Read full review

I purchased this notebook used from Best Buy, it is a nice notebook but it is a lot of foot work to find the drivers as Best Buy did not sell the OS or recovery disk with it which I do not blame Best Buy as they were selling it "Used-no OS" I do however blame ACER, I wrote them for support and they shunned me, told me it was my choice removing the OS which I did not do, it came with no OS. I told Acer their drivers on their site for the 4420 are incorrect drivers, they are for Intel chipset not AMD as this one has, they did not offer any form of support for me so I am out on the lookout for the AMD RS690/RS690M chipset drivers for this machine. Also the Acer Wireles drivers did not work, I had to download DELL R174291 Drivers for it to activate the wifi. Over all I am very pleased with the notebook's power and size but I am very very displeased with Acer's lack of support. I will likely never buy ACER again just because of the lack of support.

I thank Best Buy for their great prices and will be trying to contact them for support, hopefully they will offer more help than Acer.

this laptop is crap! you should get this laptop only if you rarely go on the computer or for your 12-14 year old son/daughter. if you want a computer with battery life THIS ISN'T THE RIGHT COMPUTER!!!!! if you unplug the charger from the wall the battery meter may say 2 hours and 31 mins but really it only lasts 10 mins (no joke) do not get this computer if you use your laptop daily and need battery life and use the internet a whole bunch. i recommend a MacBook or a DELL.

Pros

This laptop is very responsive with most tasks. It does run many games, though some not remarkably well. The Video RAM is pretty good for a 4-5 year old laptop model (896MB). This laptop lasted me a very long time; I took very good care of it.

Cons

It runs very hot (external cooling recommended, especially if you plan to put it on your lap), the rubber feet fell off so now there's nothing to keep it from sliding around. It came with Windows Vista. Before I updated to Service Pack 1, my computer woul

Summary

Acer cuts corners in some areas, but never sacrifices performance. The casing is cheap, but the hardware and peripherals are all very solid. I was quite impressed with this laptop, but after 3 1/2 years, I'm ready for a new one.
