One of the new features found on the OnePlus 2 being touted as yet another mark on the "2016 flagship killer" checklist is its new fingerprint reader. And while it is a nice addition, the initial device setup process skips over it completely. That means after going through the gauntlet of sign-ins and questions, you still need to set up the fingerprint reader on your new OnePlus 2.

Here's what you need to do:

  • Launch the Settings app.
  • Scroll down to the "Personal" section and select Fingerprint.
  • Confirm your device password when prompted.
  • You can tap on Next, or just place a finger over the home button to begin.

You'll need to place your finger on the home button until you feel the device vibrate, then lift it off and place it back on. The guide doesn't tell you this, but having setup Touch ID and Samsung fingerprint readers numerous times, it's a good idea to move your finger around ever-so-slightly each time you touch the home button. Doing so allows the scanner to gather as much information about your 'print as it can.

Keep going until you reach 100 percent. The celebratory screen that shows up when you're finished offers you two options: Finish and Add Another. Select the latter if you want to keep adding fingers to the device; you can store up to five.

One would think after setting up the fingerprint reader you would be done, right? Wrong. You still need to actually tell the device you want to use your fingerprint to unlock the phone. You can do so by tapping on Security in the Settings app and sliding the switch next to Enable fingerprint unlock to the On position.
