Facebook changed your e-mail address, here's how you can change it back

Thanks, Facebook. Really, we all wanted our @Facebook.com e-mail address listed instead of, you know, our real e-mail address.

Today, Facebook was kind enough to replace the e-mail account listed on your profile with the @Facebook.com e-mail address it provided you with awhile back. Wait, you didn't give Facebook permission to make the change? No one did. Not cool, Facebook.

Changing the e-mail account listed on your Facebook profile will only take a few minutes out of your day, but is well worth the time if you want people to know the best way to get in touch with you.

Here's how:

  1. View your Facebook Timeline.

  2. Click on your About section.

  3. That's really not the e-mail address I want people to have for me. Let's change that. Screenshot by Jason Cipriani/CNET
  4. Click on Edit in the Contact Info section.

  5. My personal e-mail is marked as hidden from my Timeline, while my Facebook e-mail is shown. I didn't change this setting. Screenshot by Jason Cipriani/CNET
  6. Next to your personal e-mail you should see a crossed out circle. Change that to the open circle, like the one next to your Facebook e-mail address. Then, if you don't want your Facebook e-mail listed, mark it as hidden from your Timeline.

  7. Much better. Screenshot by Jason Cipriani/CNET
  8. Click on Save when you're finished.

Your proper e-mail listing should now be restored. Let's all hope Facebook doesn't decide to take it upon itself to make anymore changes without at least asking first.
