Pros I was able to return it.
Cons Everything about this card is horrible.
Summary This product brought nothing but grief into my life. After installation, it did not support Direct 3d or OpenGL. After 3 days of dealing with tech "support" I found a hotfix on ATI's site for all HD 2*** cards. This fixed the Direct3d in dxdiag test, but would not support the lowest spec games. Games would either cause reboot or give "VPU problem. . . graphics card not responding." ATI recognized this problem and suggested toggling over 30 different options in BIOS, in a trial and error process. I found a myriad of forums where people had the same problem. VisionTek support was unhelpful and gave only generic support: "are your drivers updated?" I had to tell them about the hotfix.
I bought this to replace my Radeon 9550 which crapped out during the last update. The packaging said Vision Tek HD 2400 PRO, but would install only as 2600.
Terribly horribly frustrating. I'll never buy another VisionTek Radeon product again.
Pros This card was a major improvement in game graphics from my old ATI 9200.
Cons Had to upgrade power supply to keep card and system running.
Summary Upgraded my old ATI 9200 to this card. The in-game performance on my older P4 HT system was very impressive. Under my old card I was playing LOTRO at the 'low' graphics settings to get decent FPS. This card boosted the in-game settings to 'very high' with same FPS and will even run at 'ultra high' with only a slight FPS sacrifice. HL2, Lost Coast is also very impressive compared to my previous video card.
Only downside is the power required. If you are upgrading an older system, check the power supply. The Vision Tek box says 300 watt supply with two open 4 pin slots. (It comes with a 2x4-pin to PCI-E power adapter plug) My older 295 watt power supply would only work if I disconnectd both DVD drives. With a new 575 watt supply that came with a dedicate PCI-E power plug I now have no problems. Just had to spend the extra ~$35 for new power supply.
In summary, I highly recommend this if you want to extend the life of your AGP computer for gaming. Check your power supply before buying as you may have to get a new one of those as well.
