Pros Very Outstanding card. Easy install...
Cons None worth noting , other than u need deep pockets..
Summary Went with the (AGP version) because I didn't want to upgrade everythng eles, In FarCry I was happy with a low of 17 FPS to 40 FPS, now I get top level, fluid play with all eye candy turned up i.e. A, & AA,... 1280x1534, Res.at 85. Same with HL/2 and Doom3,COD-UE, Ect.
Couldn't be happer I went this way over the PCI Express mobo upgrade route....
Abit IC7-G Max2 Advance
Mushkin DDR-3500 1gib, Dual-level II
Raid-0 2 80gig WD's w/8meg Buffers
Pros Extreme Graphics capabilities
Cons You gotta' have a lotta' RAM and a decent processor to take FULL advantage of what this card has to offer!
Summary The x850 XT Platinum Edition is the best graphics card I've ever owned. Period.
After Battlefield 2 came out, my Radeon 9800 pro 256 card was starting to show its gray hairs, and i knew that if I wanted to suck every bit of graphical capability out of the game, I'd have to beef up my graphics card something fierce.
Enter the x850 XT PE. The only time the fan noise is an issue is for 5 seconds immediately after you boot up your computer. After that, it's smooth sailing.
Unlike the x800 XT PE, this does not require a large amount of energy, and if you have a 350W Power Supply (standard on most computers), you're laughing.
Only thing is- make sure the rest of your system is up to the challenge- I'd recommend at least a P4 2.8 with a minimum of 1 Gig of Ram (1.5-2.0 preferrable).
I'm investing in another gig of RAM to bring me up to that 1.5 Gig number as the paging file sometimes pushes the required memory up to 1.2 gigs, especially when flying, otherwise you start to dip below that magic 30 fps floor beneath which you daren't tread in the world of BF2.
Overall an A+ card if you can afford it!!
"Very powerful"on by Audiotherapy_
Pros very good cooling, compact card, 1+ ghz memory clock and so on..
Cons cant think of any
Summary I tried this with many games, scored 5000+ in 3dmark 05 not overclocked and thats a score that fits this card, those saying that this loses to nvidias ULTRA card well these two are the strongest at the moment and sometimes the X850 wins like in farcry and nVidia in DOOM and such, but however you look at it both are extremely powerful very well cooled cards, I run this in a Kandalf VA9000SWA case which looks awesome. A very good card especially in resolutions higher than 1024/768 even though i dont pass 1280 cuz of my eyes.. anyway hope this helps//
Pros A very, very fast card. Best offering from ATi.
Cons nVidia GeForce6800 Ultra still beats this one in most games. Don't know what CNET is doing differently, but most other respectable review sites show this card losing to the GeForce6800Ultra.
Summary If you like ATi, get this card. IF you want the FASTEST, get a 6800 Ultra.
Pros fast, cheap, still handles most games on medium settings
Cons loud, hot, not very overclockable, garbage drivers...
Summary i owned this card for about a year and a half... it works great... it would play anything i put on it... no questions asked... the stack ati drivers don't control the fan speed on their own... i had to supplement them with ATI tools to regain control over fan speeds at high temps... i was running the card at 80+ degrees sometimes and didn't even realize it... ati tools let me regain control of the fan settings and i never had a problem since... i STILL recommend this card even now for a medium grade video card... you should be able to get one for around 100 bucks on ebay...
