"Better then a 9600xt"

4 stars  | on

Pros

I have two identical comps, one with a 9600xt and one with a new 9550. tested them both against doom3 and hl2 on "high" graphics, the 9550 out performed my 9600 with doom and were equal with hl2. great option if you don't want to spend $300

"This card is dependable but only suitable for a barebones pc"

Pros

the 9550 is super-dependable, like an old ford, you feel it churning away and trying it's best to keep up but with that lacklustre analogy comes the inevitable conclusion, it just can't keep up with even older games.

It's no fault of the poor 9550, it's been around for a while and offers the poorer amongst us (like myself) a solid - if unsatisfactory - gaming experience.

the 9550 barely cuts it with 3-5year old games like most wanted (highest resolution, NO prettifiers), GTA san andreas (as before), etc. and I would suggest you opt to rather hold onto your pennies and scrounge up for a card with less wrinkles. I've had this card for two years (don't take out the pitchforks!) and it has never disappointed - in fault terms that is.

Get this card only if you want to keep your young'un put and money is tight.
