Pros Pretty decent video card for playing games, inputting video, and watching tv on your computer. No monthly fee for channel guide.
Cons Not the greatest PVR. Downloading the weekly file can sometimes be a hassle, but I guess it's worth not paying a monthly fee. The tv on demand just plain sucks.
Summary If you are getting this as a cheaper alternative to a TIVO, then what you save in money you'll lose in time. If you spend a lot of time on your computer, you'll find recording a show while playing a game can be a problem. Also, this card doesn't have a dual tuner so you'll need another capture card if you want to record one thing while watching something else. The remote control is decent, but it would have been better if there were more support from ATI in the form of plug-ins. Other than the PVR hassles, this card is good for archiving VHS tapes to burn on cd's or dvd's. I have realized that ATI's support is not as good as I had expected. For me this card was worth the price because I can record some shows that I miss when I work nights, and I'm definately getting rid of all those old VHS tapes. Bottom line...if you want something that works like a TiVO...then buy a TiVO. If you have some patience, then this card may get the job done with some constant adjustments.
Pros Great Idea; Worked for two years
Cons Problems recording DV cam to hard drive
Summary This card worked great for over two years just to watch/record analog TV. When I recently tried to download and capture video from digital movie cam, things went awry. Tried downloading newest drivers-major problems. Tried to go back to old drivers-any drivers, with no luck. Now card will tune TV but not record. Quirky.
Pros Nor known to cause ED.
Cons Software was written by inept engineers!!
Summary I have had this All in Wonders 9600 for about two years. When it works its fine, but you are always on edge knowing it will crash. I would like to make one thing very clear, I HATE THIS PRODUCT! The time spent trying to fix the problems is aggravating. The “help” from the installation cd is useless, ATI’s website sucks and their online help is non-existent. If you are a computer goo-roo or skilled in ATI software jargon, maybe it will work for you. If not, stay away! This following are problems I’ve had. Sound issues including static, no sound, and cuts out requiring a re-boot. Capture driver not found even though it’s installed on my computer. Updated capture driver does not resolve this. I have tried every possible means to repair these issues. Now, I no longer care and will move on to something else.
Pros there isnt one
Cons to many to list here
Summary Here is my tech support summary... Hey, I have a problem, Reply: "get the latest update". OK I get update then have a new problem. Reply: "you shouldn't have updated the older version is more stable and compatible 'even with our own products'
This alone should warn you to stay away, but there is more. They just told me as of aug07 they have stopped doing any further updates for this product line.
On the bright side if/when you ever get product to work it is pretty good, but only with the older software and drivers!
Pros it works sort of
Cons impossible installation requirements
Summary this product is not for the layman. initally it worked;updates were impossible to run. after 5 (five) hours and 5 calls to canada (at 9 cents per minute) and after 8 hours of trying and retrying to install updates, it didnt happen. few of the people i spoke with after waiting up to 45 minutes for were not courteous or helpful. the final call after a 45 minute wait was with sr. technician who told me to reinstall XP and then hung up. I would not recommend ATI products to anyone less than the programmer that wrote the software; it is NOT user friendly and is very difficult to install and use. its almost impossible to delete all the software from your system; and it screws up a lot of things you finally clean up the system. the site is not truthful and i say dont get this stuff unless you want to have major problems and headaches.
