General discussion

Your Netflix rental records to be shared.

by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / January 5, 2013 / 8:55 AM UTC'+ENTIRE+movie+rental+history+to+be+shared and other places but the fallout of a change in privacy laws means less privacy and more public sharing.

"Back to the VPPA. The legislation is an update to a law that prevents personal information about a person's video rental history from being shared with a third party; it was passed after supreme court hopeful Robert Bork's rental history was leaked to DC's City Paper in 1987."

Netflix and Facebook seem to be happy.

Its sad to see such bills pass so easily. My only comment is that the post titles need some work.

.....and then request it again every two years. It doesn't say whether the information they share is tied to you personally or just used in aggregate to do things like trend analysis.

Was they had to ask every time they wanted to use this information. Now they can put this into your login agreement and well, it is a big step backwards in privacy.

We'll have to get a few Congress folk's viewing records to correct this one.
