For the last several years I have used laptops and, being a road warrior, docked them in numerous different docking stations all over the world. The laptop always detected the presence or absence of speakers, mouse (left or right-handed) or whatever. Suddenly, after upgrading to Windows XP Pro (full system and apps install after HD crash), the laptop no longer does this. I use a right-handed mouse in my home dock and a left-handed one at the office. I created new hardware profile (never had to do THAT before) for each location but when I try to disable a device in Device Manager, the Device Usage block is grayed out.
HW is Dell Inspiron 4100, P4-M, 1.7 GHz, w/ 512MB RAM, Win XP Pro SP1.
