Windows update V5 installed on XP-how do I remove it?

by Paul Muntz / July 31, 2004 2:39 PM PDT

I went to Windows Update page and it says V5. I don't like the way it works. Is there any way to go back to V4? I don't remeber installing V5. It also changed my Automatic Updates setup in XP. Again I don't like it. I sure would like to get rid of it.
Thanks
Paul

Sure hope you get an answer. I have the same problem.
I wound up on v5 after installing and then uninstalling sp2 beta. Now I can't install the latest security update KB867801 as it leaves me without a desktop.

See if you can eject it with BHODEMON. I'm unsure if they (MS) give you a choice on what version updater, but if it's a BHO, you can eject it.

As to the BETA SP2, it was a BETA and such is to be used on non-critical machines that can be wiped and reloaded. If you don't believe this, keep trying betas.

Better get used to it. After XP SP2, WindowsUpdate v5 is going to be it for Windows Update.

Did you check if you made a restore point before you ever even saw v5 on your computer? Maybe you have to further back.
