Windows System 32 / cmd.exe

by jijo272-19929603664454001560331024731446 / October 4, 2004 7:17 PM PDT

When I boot the above appears "windows system 32 / cmd.exe" as a black box and in the box it shows "installing....." I have no idea what this is and why it's happening. I also find that everything is moving slowly. When I click on something it takes forever for it to appear.
I have McAfee Virus, I have installed SP2, I have SBC Global Browser, and I also installed Adaware and Spyware Blaster as I had so many pop-ups.
Thank you.

start by going to msconfig (start\run\type "msconfig") and have a look in the "startup" tab - try and identify all startup programs - any that you are not sure of uncheck and reboot. If this solves the problem it is one of these files.
Get back to me if this doesn't help

I did a msconfig to start up menu and not too many things looked familiar to me. I did notice that the "windows system 32" is on the start up menu. If I delete that will that get rid of it?

Thanks for your reply.

we are just temporarily stopping these item from starting for the time being - when you uncheck an item in msconfig it is not deleted but is prevented from loading. If this solves the problem then it is this program - also give me the full description of this item namely "startup item" , "command" and "location" these are the columns which appear in the statup tab.
But no harm will be done by unchecking these items and the procedure is 100% reversible.
Then get back to me.
Peter
