windows closing down a program I'm using

by kinseeker / April 14, 2013 1:10 PM PDT

I have Vista and have been using incredimail and family tree maker for at least 4 years on the same computer. All of a sudden while opening an email I get the message "a problem caused the program stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify if a solution is available." I would have to open the program again and if i would click on an email I again got the message. When I have family tree maker and working with it I keep getting this same message. I have updated incredimail, uninstalled and reinstalled it and it still will not work. Same with family tree maker. HELP

Sorry but given the trouble I've seen with incredimail, I can write I consider it malicious and troublesome for users.

I'd dump that.

I did uninstall incredimail. I have used it for ever without any problems. I sure don't like windows mail and with vista I can't use outlook. Not wanting to change my email address not going to use gmail. Thanks for you reply.

I used Outlook 2003 with Vista.

And others in the office used other versions such as Outlook 2010 with Vista. Why can't you use Outlook?

In parting, I can't tell exactly what the issue here is so I shared my encounters with a title in your discussion.

Try Thunderbird

Try Thunderbird or one of the dozens of other email programs out there. I'm personally not a huge fan of Outlook, mostly because I've become spoiled by the search capabilities of Thunderbird that make it pretty easy to drill down into search results to find specific messages that I have yet to see any other email program even come close to matching.

I'm with Bob on this. If one program isn't working, and you have choices, try out your other options.

I will check out other email programs. The biggest problem I have is I do not want to change my email address since I am a genealogist and need for people to find me. Thanks for your reply. I love this forum and have always been helped.

I need to try to figure out when they both worked. I know incredimail did not work a couple weeks ago and family tree maker is like only a few day. Not sure how to do the restore as have never had to do one before. thanks, Lorelee

I figured out the restore as I know when family tree maker stopped working. I restored from that date and so far so good. FTM has not had to close down for about 1/2 hour so hope that is taken care of. Thanks so much for your help.
