Question

Why won't my connected tv play sound anymore?

by confusedloser / October 13, 2013 7:04 AM PDT

I have no idea what happened.
I plugged the HDMI cable in and out twice, the computer has been restarted several times. This problem has been happening for two days.
The speakers on my tv DOES work. It's been connected to the tv for months now and just stopped working.
I know it was my fault, but I don't know what I did.

I've been looking up earlier forums the past two days and none of the tips have helped me.

This is how my playback window looks.

I'm not sure if this information helps any, but..
-Sanyo tv
-HP computer
-No audio cable was used when it was working. I say this because forums have suggested HDMI and audio cable?
And I would rather not buy one when what I was doing earlier was working perfectly fine.

Your help is much appreciated. Sad I know this has to be some easy fix.

I'll be buy the computer for the rest of the day so I'll be able to reply quickly with information.

HDMI not set

I take it that you have video?

With HDMI cable attached to PC/laptop and TV, go into Control Panel -> Sound. Make sure that HDMI out is set as default device (if it's not right click it and set it). Does it work now? I've Windows not automatically switch to HDMI when it is plugged in (ie. it is thick, it's not called Plug & Pray for nothing).

Hope that helps

not showing

In reply to: HDMI not set

It doesn't even show up in my playback window. I have show disabled and disconnected devices clicked, but this is exactly how it shows up. :c

And in Device Manager the only drivers under Sound, video and game controllers are:
-Realtek High Definition Audio
-NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM)
