Question

Why is desktop default checked with new window?

by lylemcd / April 23, 2013 7:56 AM PDT

This question is actually for my mom. She is using shift-command-n to create a new window on her desktop.

When it comes up, for some reason 'Desktop' on the left rail under Favorites is coming up as default selected which means that it is listing every file on my desktop.

I have searched through preferences and view to deselect this, and googled like crazy with no success. Is there some way to deselect this so that my mom can get an empty folder.

Thank you!
Lyle

Interesting,

This keyboard shortcut produces a new untitled Folder (unopened) on the desktop of an OS X Mac.

With the desktop highlighted in the Sidebar, what happens if she double clicks the Untitled Folder?

Needless to say, untitled folder created here do not have the Desktop selected as default.

She just tried it, for whatever reason right clicking -> create new folder worked just fine.

Thank you!

Unless she's doing something strange

In reply to: Interesting,

Right, so she creates a new folder. Double clicks it, desktop comes up default clicked. That's what I'm asking about. My system doesn't do it. So I have no idea why hers does.

Let's see if we can convince Mom to

only use the Right Mouse button to create new folders.

Then, even though the phenomenon is still around, we can allow it to slowly drift away.
