What is your opinion on the best anti-virus program?

by VickiT12 / January 8, 2012 2:59 AM PST

My computer is one year old and it came with one year of Webroot which will soon expire.
I don't have any issues with Webroot but I just wondered if there is one that you would recommend over Webroot.
I don't care if it's free or not but if a free one will work just as well then I'm all for it

Here in the Avast forum we say Avast is the best. But we are prejudiced.

There are reviews of such and the problem is still

The problem is still with us. Not one protects us from everything so the best protection is the person at the keyboard, mouse or touch screen.

Not wrong with Avast either.

It's hard to say which is the best AV program. Detection rates obviously are key. For that I'd check out AV Comparatives, a well respected organization afaik http://www.av-comparatives.org/ who run tests on a number of AV programs.

Here's their latest

I've tried most of the major AV programs. I'm currently using VIPRE (not tested by AV Comp) And I'm pretty happy with it. I barely know it's there. It's light on resources which is good for my purposes since I like to game a lot in my spare time.

As far as system security I have to say I have been let down by AV programs in general. The few times my system has been under attack it hasn't been my AV program that bailed me out. It's been my anti-spyware scanners eg Hitman Pro, Superantispyware, HijackTHis and MalwareBytes. Wheatever it's been has breezed right by my AV.

I remember I asked ESET about a spyware scanner they recommended and they said I didn't need one because ESET was good against spyware too. They were wrong.

For the money imo you're best off going with a free AV since no one can totally protect you and their quality seems to fluctuate depending on the threats, both emerging and known. And then supplement it with some good spyware scanners such as the ones I mentioned

Avast Free A/V
by travis41 / January 27, 2012 1:50 PM PST

I have used Avast 4 the last 2 yrs exclusively,as my A/V app, I set all available expert settings {shields} on high & when I shut down the PC I set the boot scan{also set on high}.Make sure in settings that the self defense module is checked, this is the best free A/V app out there as far as I'm concerned.

In fact,it is hard to see which Anti-Virus program is the best, as some good programs like Kaspersky is usually cost us much space source on our computer, but others may not a good effect on prevent virus. So the most important is make our computer under safe use with our good habit.

Light bulbs you shouldn't buy

There are plenty of dimmable LED light bulbs, but make sure you don't buy the ones that flicker when you dial them down.
