As long as the entire base of the television can sit flat on the surface, I don't think you'll run into any trouble.
As well, you want to make sure that the stand will support the weight of the television itself.
What is the minimum size TV stand that can be used for a Samsung 46" TV? Recommended TV stand sizes seem to be about the same as the HDTV size. Why can't the stand be narrower as long as it is big enough to hold the HDTV's base and supports the weight of the TV? For example, I would think I should be able to use a 29" wide stand for a 46" LCD (46" wide), even if it means a 8 1/2" overhang on each size of the stand. The weight capacity of the stand is 95 lbs.
