What is Freedompop?

by Chigal48 / April 22, 2013 7:16 AM PDT

Our city is offering free internet service thru Freedompop. I have Clear @ $44 a month. This service is about $14.99 a month and Up to 3Mbps. Up to Up to 8Mbps is $18.99, which is a whole lot lower than the $44.

But I don't know if this is a legit service. They want you to buy the modem for $90. I lease the modem from Clear at $5 a month. ($60 / yr)
So far satisfied with Clear. Does anybody know about Freedompop.

I contacted the company and got an estimate for approximately 40G of data, which they estimated would cost about $160 a month! So I'll stay with ClearNet which charges $45/month unlimited.

Stay away from FreedomPop

I had FreedomPop for a while. Stay away. The reasons are several. First they offer you a refundable deposit which they will never refund if dissatisfied with the service. Second they have a program where you can "earn" more bandwidth but they never actually give you the bandwidth after completing offers on its website. Third, their customer service is abysmal. Lastly, They are quite slow. Word to the wise: Avoid like the plague.

Sokar303,

We work as quickly as possible to process and refund returns. Since recently finishing up our beta period, we are limited to business hours during the work week, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm PDT. We are often unable to immediately respond to user requests outside of these hours. We hope that in the future we'll be able to extend these hours as our company continues to grow. Nonetheless, our customer service team strives to respond to all inquiries as efficiently and promptly as possible.

Regretfully, your return was sent to the wrong location. Since it wasn't properly returned to our warehouses in Indiana, it took a little longer than usual for us to get it processed. We do not handle testing for connectivity in our offices, so we arranged to have your return mailed to our warehouses to be tested. Once received, our logistics department worked on getting it processed quickly. Afterwards, we did issue you a refund, as well as provided you with documentation that proved that the credit was issued.

Update, please...

Sokar, did you get your refund? Where were you using their service? (city, setting, etc)
