We lucked out and found a trojan on the PC.
It's hard to figure out what you want from your post here but I'll start with one reason I've encountered a few times. To fix this we used the restore feature of the laptop. Yes there are other ways but so far the owners don't want to pay for the work.
Just curious but our little Atom 525 that I built with a legit Win 7 OEM fully activated and verified about a year and a half ago, suddenly required me to run the online activex crap WGA site in Redmond. Or lose my system!
Doing so was necessary as unfortunately having to run WINDOWS is a work requirement for my wife.
Seeing that I am not a thief and with no apology it gave me a clean bill of health and sent me on my way.
Has anybody else with a perfectly legit machine have to justify their butt to Redmond recently?
Or could it simply be there is a spate of people desperately trying to downgrade fresh 200 dollar craptops with old copies of 7..so Microsoft simply triggered a general verification cycle sweep or something along that line?
Either way they are NOT going to get me to "UPGRADE TO 8" any time Zune even if I have to re-install my copy of 7!
Or switch to Citrix on a good Linux distro and tell my wife sorry no word, excel, or outlook except on your remote desktop!
It only happened after an urgent update so it sounds a little fishy. Never been required to re-verify Windows before ...ever... and am a little miffed and curious!
