Weird Tungsten E2 problem - won't turn off.

by dahewitt555 / January 4, 2007 8:01 AM PST

I've had my Tungsten E2 about a year. It hotsyncs fine, accepts data and displays data fine. I didn't add any software recently (there is 3rd party software but it's over 6 months old). I didn't even drop it. But, starting 2 days ago it won't stay powered off. After I switch it off, after 10 seconds it's back on again! It does this with or without the power cable. Without the power cable plugged in it powers down in a day. And it won't do a hard reset. I ran antivirus software on my PC but it says it's clean. The Palm website doesn't say anything about power staying ON. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Tell me exactly how you do a hard reset.

No checking the web please.

Also, we just changed years so who knows what new software bug you've found.

Me? I write PalmOS applications so I could by mistake cause such an issue. This is why a hard reset is needed.

Hard reset
by dahewitt555 / January 5, 2007 12:18 AM PST

Thanks for your posting.
I tried a hard reset by pressing and holding the power button, then pressing the reset button on the back. I waited about 15 seconds. Nothing happened. (I also tried a soft reset, by pressing the reset button and nothing happened either.)
You have a good point about changing years, perhaps I should delete the third-party applications.

My Tungsten E2 won't turn off either......

I have had it about a year and a half, no problems so far. I am a novice in using PDA's. What can the cause of this problem be and how can I fix it?

As noted above.

If some third party program had an issue, then???

Sync it, hard reset and erase then re-test. Don't sync it so you can test with a clean machine.

Problem solved.....log on to www.palm.com

The "won't shut off" problem is related to a birthday reminder that extends over the new year. My friend's birthday is the 5th of Jan and I had set a reminder for 7 days prior. If it had been 4 days it would not have been a problem. Opening contacts and deleting the birthday reminder solved my problem. Hope others are sucessful too.

Best to all in the New Year!

I am so glad that I read your posting. The same thing has just happened to me and I changed the birthday reminders ( I had 3 of them ) as you instructed. The problem was fixed just as you described .

I've had my Tungsten E for about 5 years and this is the 1st time that I ever had an issue with birthday reminders in January. And I think this would be the 2nd year that my son-in-law's birthday was in there.

Thought my Tungsten E2 was heading to the trash until I came across this thread. Thank you VERY much. Mine kept powering up and dying by the end of the day. I had a birthday reminder set for January 7th. Just shut the reminder off and BOOM...it's working perfect again. I love the internet for reasons such as this!!!
