Volume control does not show up on XP

by nativetarheel / March 25, 2008 4:31 AM PDT

The volume controls on my different programs all work, but I have no generic volume control for the actual computer speakers. When I click on sounds and audio in control panel and click "place volume control in the taskbar", it says the volume control program has not been installed. Exactly what steps I do take to install the volume control?

BTW... Before running RegistrySmart, my system specs showed: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz 2.25 GHz. Now it shows Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz 3.00 GHz. why did the 2.25 change to 3.00?

Thanks,
Bill

The OS is Windows XP Home edition version 2002 with Service Pac 2
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz 3.00 GHz with 1 GB of Ram

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319095 for a fix.

It might be easier to find another XP machine somewhere and copy sndvol32.exe to your USB-stick. Then on your PC put it in the system32 folder.

In reply to: Re: volume control

Thanks Kees,

I did a search for the SndVol32.exe file on the net and found a post where someone had it available as a downloadable zip file. I followed the instructions and presto... I now have volume control for the first time in months. Your advice will make life much easier without blasting sound effects.

The link to the downloadable file is:

Thanks again,
Bill
