VGA to DVI to HDMI conversion...

by sox73b3 / November 30, 2007 5:43 AM PST

I am trying to hook a Dreamcast game console up to an HDMI switch then to a Gateway HD Monitor, Playstation 3 is already hooked up to this monitor.

I am going from VGA to DVI and then using a DVI to HDMI Cable.

The display does not work with game console but works for my computer using DVI to HDMI.

Is there something about a VGA signal that does not allow it to be converted this way?

Thank You

vga is an analog signal.

dvi can be analog AND/OR digital.

hdmi is digital.

a vga to dvi adapter converts the vga to an analog dvi signal. a dvi to hdmi adapter converts a digital dvi to an hdmi signal. there is nothing between there that converts an analog dvi to digital dvi.

they do make adapters(more like boxes), but it is quite expensive.

Get a converter

Get a converter device from VGA to HDMI which will cost a lot in compare to simple ocnversion cables. It works with your PC because you have DVI output from your PC. I have VGA in mine and it does not work !

Beware! Basic video cards with DVI/HDMI output costs similar to the conversion unit.
