I believe due to a virus on my sister's computer, all of the USB ports have somehow stopped working. I cannot recall the problem before the day the computer got the virus, so I assume the two are related. This virus did take control of display settings and stuff, so it is very possible that it is the cause. Anyways. By "not working", I don't mean fully not functional. Windows says the device is fine (of course), and when I plug in a flash drive or a camera, it makes the sound indicating that it knows something has been put in the USB port. I can also safely eject the devices from the quick bar (or whatever the bottom right corner with the time is called), and it recognizes them when I try and do that. However, when I go into "My Computer" after inserting a flash drive, it does not appear as a drive I can select. When I try and access "G:\" it says there's nothing there. Also when plugging in a camera, it knows it's plugged in, but the photo uploading wizard doesn't come up, and basically any other USB device is unusable, though its presence is kind of acknowledged. It is the case with every USB port.
Is this perhaps because I have not fully removed the virus from the computer? I've used Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and AVG to remove a lot of crap, and nothing else has been detected by the two but one thing. Userinit.exe has been corrupted, I believe, and AVG doesn't seem to be able to do anything. So my question is, what could be the problem with the USB ports, and also, could it be the result of a (present?) virus? Any help/pointing in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks!
