Possibly
by Jimmy Greystone / March 31, 2011 11:19 PM PDT

Possibly, but you wouldn't like the results. Most netbooks have the computing power of a mid-range system from 6-7 years ago, which is why they installed XP on virtually all of them. Vista and 7 would have been too heavy.

Don't let the 1.6GHz fool you, the Atom, clock for clock, provides MAYBE as much as 75% the performance of say a Core 2 Duo. So, in the best of circumstances, your Atom CPU would be like a 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo, and in plenty of scenarios it would be a lot less than that.

Netbooks just can't handle the load of Vista or 7, it's as simple as that. Save your money, put it towards a new laptop instead.

Which Mini 1000?
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / April 1, 2011 12:26 AM PDT

The one I had with the SSD would have me write NO since HP's choice of SSD was the worst I've seen. If it's the usual 1000 with the 160GB HDD and you bumped it to 2GB it wouldn't be too bad but why invest hundreds into this machine?
