Two Mac Mail problems

by sjallan / September 15, 2010 4:43 AM PDT

1. I have a "client" (I help seniors) that is using Mac Mail with Verizon as her ISP. She has several messages that will not delete. I've checked all her preferences and they are OK. I've tried using the menus, dragging to the trash etc, etc. The last thing I can think of is trashing her Mail preference from her home folder library and she in unwilling to do that since she doesn't think she remembers her password.
2. Another client finally brought her AOL mail into her Mac Mail and is happy except she gets duplicate messages (below where AOL shows up as an IMAP account) in the mail box area. Is there any work around to delete the AOL messages and just leave the messages coming in from AOL in her Mail Inbox?
Both individuals are in Snow Leopard, pretty new iMacs.

Sounds like you have two AOL accounts set up on that machine.
If you are sure that the new account that was set up is an IMAP account, then you should be able to delete the other, POP3 account?, from the list.

The delete thing. Sometimes this happens. What you can do is Rebuild the Mail database.
Launch Mail.
Select the mailbox you want to rebuild.
Choose Mailbox > Rebuild.

things should be ok after that.

BTW, did you know that there is a whole slew of Mac forums on CNET/
Take a look here; http://forums.cnet.com/mac-forums/

Thanks MrMacFixit, the recalcitrant email messages that would not delete are now gone.
Haven't figured out the double messages yet.
