Turn USB Storage into MP3 player???

by riles78 / August 18, 2008 7:01 AM PDT

I am looking for a portable (iPod sized) device that has a USB INPUT on it as a way of expanding/creating memory.
Seems odd to me that I cannot find something like this. There are in-dash car stereos that will take a USB flash drive and play music on it, but no portable devices? Odd... anyone know of something like this?
THANKS

I have a 2840 that came out about ten years ago and I've loved it. I used it as an external hard drive and no sync is required. Just plug it in, it looks like a new hard drive on my computer, and copy and paste the music files. I despise sync software. If you can't get a hold of one of these, you might consider a plain old mini hard drive with a usb connection...if your car stereo is designed to take that kind of input. Happy

USB drives are large and would be hard to fit into the device and still be able to put it in your pocket
a lot of MP3 players not have expandable memory in the form of SD cards like the Creative ZEN/ZEN X-Fi, Archos 406/605 flash, and microSD like the Sansa line. Some Archos players have that USB input you're looking for but that's through an add-on. I recommend looking into the SD card option
