Question

Transfering from one brand Reader to another:

by yotraviesa / December 1, 2011 9:33 AM PST

I now have a Sony Reader, bought in 2000, that is obsolete and wish to purchase another, but not another Sony. I have invested alot in reading material I wish to keep and can go to the Sony Library to download again. Can I re-download this material onto any of the newer tablets on the market, or do I have to stick to a Sony product? If I can use another brand, which would that be?

I think we need to know more about this content and reader that read it.

Transfering from one brand Reader to another:

I now have the Sony Reader PRS-600. In it I have downloaded many novels (about 145-150) all of which I wish to keep. All were purchased online from the Sony Reader Library plus many more which I deleted through the years.

For about 1 year this eReader has been giving me trouble, which with their help has been fixed by phone. This last time I asked about the newer readers and they mentioned that the downloads can only be made on their own brand, Sony. I just wanted to make sure this was the case.

I thought with technology as it is today, especially with the IPad2, items could be downloaded from any other brand Reader onto the newer model Reader.

I'm not sure about any of this terminology. All I can say clearly is that I want all the novels I have now in my old Sony Reader put into a new IPad2 without having to pay for them all again.

Since this Sony Reader PRS-600 is no longer being manufactured, I want to purchase something else before it completely breaks down & is no longer usable. Before that, rather than to purchase the newer color Sony Reader which is much like the IPad, but not with the same qualitites yet still pretty pricey, I would like to make sure I can perform the process I mentioned before of downloading to the IPad2.

Thank You.

Sony appears to have set the reader free.
