I may look at the settings and drivers but given the customer will not pay for the hours to see if there is a fix for the broken OS we have to reload the machine with the factory restore media.
ONE LAST TEST is to make a bootable Linux CD (no install!, I use Ubuntu) then see if Ubuntu is OK or not.
If Ubuntu is OK then reloading the factory OS will likely cure it.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A135 S4407.
A couple months ago, I began using my tv as an external monitor from time to time with no problems. About one month ago, the laptop screen stopped working. I could make out a picture on the display, but it was not nearly bright enough to use. I tried a number of things, but all signs pointed to a bad back light or inverter problem. I hooked up an external monitor and moved on. Occasionally, the laptop screen would flicker back to life for a moment but nothing permanent.
Last night, the laptop display suddenly lit up and began working perfectly, even when I moved the screen up and down. Now it will come on at startup but go off again shortly after. All I need to do though is configure a duplicate or extended desktop (sometimes several times in a row), and the laptop display will come back on again. Once on, it will continue working until I restart or power down the computer. The external monitor continues to work flawlessly all of the time.
I am doubting my previous assessment that it is a hardware problem now that I have proof that the laptop screen works. I just don't know how to go about making sure it works all of the time. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for reading.
