Time Machine with Drobo- Backup crashes

by Dave_ao / August 11, 2012 3:34 AM PDT

Hi. I need help running Time Machine on a Mac Pro Desktop with Lion 10.7 on to a Drobo. I am trying to copy 1.8 TB onto two separate Drobos (separate backups with one used for off site storage). Each drobo has multiple 2TB drives in them with plenty of room. The backup sees the Drobo and starts as it should only to crash after a few hundred megabytes have transferred. I have been working on this for weeks with little to no help from Apple or Data Robotics (maker of Drobo). I have the latest firmware in the Drobos and they the Drobo dashboard tells me they are healthy and ready for data. Help please?!

It crashes about 8 gb into the backup and the message that comes up feels pretty unhelpful. It says:

"The backup was not performed because an error occurred while copying files to the backup disk."

And have you completed the steps and advice at this link?

Yes, I have tried those suggestions.

I did another reboot of my system and restarted Time Machine for the 100th time but I anticipate the same conclusion in about 10 or 15 minutes. It starts copying files all over again (shows total number of files on HD to be copied).

Then that last test.

Use some other drive in something other than the Drobo. Remember I'm taking your word that all the software and firmware is up to date and there is no issues with the USB cable.
