Taskbar won't change with theme [SP3]

by elektrisk / February 10, 2010 11:41 PM PST

Here's a screenshot. You can see how some aspects of the OS are changed (because of the theme), but the taskbar looks like it's in classic mode Plain

I've tried applying the theme with StyleXP, but it wasn't compatible with my build of XP. I've also tried using TuneUp Utilities Styler, but that didn't help either. I've checked Taskbar->Properties->Start Menu, and it was set to "Windows XP", not classic.

I've even tried changing my theme to "Windows XP" (it IS an option), but that still doesn't change the taskbar. It changes everything else EXCEPT the taskbar. Does anyone have any idea as to what I can do to solve this?

I've tried several themes, all with the same results.

PS: I have patched the UXTheme.dll.

From memory, a SERVICE is not running.

The usual is the Themes service. There may be others.

The themes service is running. I just checked. It's set to automatic and was already running.

elektrisk, Go to the link below and under the letter "T" scroll down to "Themes (Won't Load or only Windows Classic is listed)" and you'll find several possible causes and solutions.

Unfortunately, that page didn't help much. I've been there before. However, I went again and checked it out. I downloaded a "restorethemes.reg" reg fix, but it didn't help with anything.

Now that's interesting. Are we dealing with some hacked XP?

If you're asking if my OS is pirated, then no, it's not. This is a copy that I got from my MSDN subscription.

That helps.

In reply to: No.

The MSDN version looks to be troublesome. Try a retail version.
