Your common DVD is 4.7GB to double that. So even great compression is going to look bad on a nice big screen. Let's just leave it at 4.7GB per movie. That means you need some 5GB of disk space on that server.
Today the drives alone are about 300 bucks (and dropping) so that's 1,500 for the drives and we haven't found the unit to manage all this. Maybe that Apple TV for the player with 5 of the Apple 1TB backup units at 500 each.
Ok, that's 3 grand. All possible today. Here's the question. Would you buy it?
Hey There everyone, I'm New here and have a question that may be you can help with. I'm looking for a product that will allow me to back up a least 1,000 movies to some sort of hard drive and allow playback. I'm looking to reduce space and want to be able to scroll though a list and watch it through my TV. Does anyone know if such a product exists. Please let my know here or send an E-Mail to MrJesterMD@Yahoo.com thanks for any help you have. I will also post this question at the Home audio & video forum.
