SSD on Ubuntu?

What i want to know is how does Ubuntu deal with SSD and if it either degrades or is the same in longevity as other OS with SSD? Does it correctly utilize the SSD?

Does ubuntu handle SSD's the same as windows does in making sure that all of the sectors on the drive are used equally in order to keep the drive on an even wear pattern as windows does? Does Ubuntu automatically know it is in an SSD?
