Sony Vaio touchpad problems

by Hollywood67 / December 8, 2008 6:54 AM PST

Hey guys,

Got a new VAIO VGN-NR32S about two months ago and it's working fine - except one problem. ANY time I use Microsoft word or hotmail to compose an e-mail or even posting on forums such as this it takes twice the time because when i'm typing the cursor just jumps all over the place!!

If i'm writing something the cursor will jump position on the page - into another line for example so i'll have to stop, fix the line, reposition the cursor, start again and then the cursor will move again - i'm a writer and it's really slowing me down and very frustrating -

anyone experience this problem or have any idea as to whats the problem and how to fix it?

I'm thinking there might be a problem with the touchpad but i'm really not sure.

Cheerz guys

My same laptop does the exact thing. I am wondering if my accident when using the keyboard you touch the touch pad. If I do that it sends mine into orbit also just like your discreption. I am wondering if their is a way to disable the touch pad while using the keys?

re whether the cursor is moving 'cos you're hitting touchpad

No, this is not the problem - I think hte writer who posted the question would know that was the case if it was. It is not the case in my same problem — I know I am not accidentally brushing the touchpad in any way on the occasions where it annoys me too and slows my writing down/loses the flow of my writing to do so, when writing at length in WORD or in email or like here. Same situations the original poster mention. I have learned to touchtype and I am not hitting the touchpad with any part of my hands when this annoying thing happens, becuase of how my hands and wrists and fingers are now positioned they are static - my top finger joints do the moving and all the work. My wrists are still and poised. Yes this cursor suddenly vanishing to a different part of the document and inserting my still-being-typed text into there is extremely a drawback, it really slows me down as I have to find out where it's gone and then select and retrieve what new text has been planted there and take it back to the right place. I am unable to trust to type for long without lookign at the screen any more as I cannot trust it to be behaving and simply inserting the text consistently where I have believed I am typing it. I knew I wasn't brushing the touchpad with my wrists or hands, but didn't know what the annoying problem was.

disabling the touchpad while you type

yes there is a way to disable the touchpad while using the keys, as you ask here. Press the blue Fn Key at the same time as pressing the F1-Key; on the Sony Vaio. this will disbable the trackpad/ touchpad.

yes I keep getting this too, and I didn't know what it was. I didn't realise it could be a faulty touchpad. my warranty expires at the end of the year! so, thanks Happy
