Sony Cybershot problems

by djszp5 / October 23, 2006 11:39 AM PDT

Hi, I have a Sony Cyber-shot 4.1 mpx and its been out of commission for some time. When I am able to turn it on, the LCD is just a snowy screen, whether I put in on movie, camera, or view mode. Also, even if I put brand new batteries in, it only stays on for a moment or two. The shutter button does not function, which I'm not sure if thats a related to the LCD problem or not. Basically, its in real bad shape and I'm in the market for a new one, but I was just wondering if anyone else had run into similiar problems with their Cyber-shot. I've already had it sent back to Sony once, they fixed it temporarily, and now my warranty is up, and its not worth putting 90 bucks into fixing. Any advice, other than start shopping for a new one?
Thanks,
Dave

Since you did not mention the model number I can not be sure if your camera is involved.

Here is a link.....

http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html

See if this problem applies to your camera.

If it does.....Sony will fix the camera for free, even if warranty has expired.

Model number is DSC-P41, which is not on that list. The first time my camera was sent in it was having the problems described in that link, now its a similiar problem but much worse.

I would be tempted to call Sony service and call their attention to the problem described in that article.

Tell them, even though your camera is not on the list, it is having the same problems as described in the article.

There is the possibility that their first list of cameras was incomplete and the problem is more widespread than they thought. They may have a more complete list now.

All they can say is ..... no.
