SOED6 Flash Player

by rotebaron / December 3, 2010 10:56 PM PST

I have been succesfully running SOED6 version on my iMAC; OS 10.6.5

Very recently when calling on SOED6 an alert message came up ....

Uncaught exception
Called from <null> line 2
Called from App.hx line 146
Called from swhx/Application.hx line 67
Unable to retrieve Flash player function table

This is now all I get when I try to access SOED6

I have removed the programme from my applications folder and tried several times to reinstall the software. Each time I do, all I get afterwards is the same message alert.

Currently I do not have the software loaded.
Is this a known problem?
Can you advise me how to reload the software and get past this problem.

I can not identify any reason why this failure occurred.

Some days before the first failure I had downloaded the latest automatic Apple OS update release.

All advice welcome.

Would that be the Standard Oxford English Dictionary?

Are you using WINE?

I suggest you contact SOED Tech Support with this problem.

Flash on a Mac is not the best app produced by Adobe.

On casting around a few other forums I found out that other users have had the same problem.

I assumed that this problem was triggered by the latest Apple OS upgrade download. I emailed Apple first, but as expected have received nothing back.

I have downloaded new Flash but without any success.

I came to the same conclusion that you suggest, and have emailed SOED Tech Support.
Will report the outcome.

I have received a reply back from the Tech Support for SOED6

The problem is a known fault. They have directed me to a download patch to resolve it, and I am now back up and running.

Thanks for your responses.

SOED Patch

In reply to: Patch

Dear t.t.bugs,

Sorry that I did not respond to your request when you posted it but seasonal holiday disruptions have kept me distracted from computer stuff.
Glad to hear that you found the patch.
The publisher's webpage is not as clear as it might be and I passed the fix by first time because, as you found out, it only refers to version 3.
It was quite a relief to get SOED back up and running as I use it all the time.

All the best!

No worries rotebaron, it is a busy time of year after all!
I agree about the OED website, you would think that an organisation with the organisational skills of the OED would understand the importance of correctly labelling pages eh!?

Similar issue - unresolved

Hello rotabaron,
I just bought the cd-rom and I am having the same issue as you did. I downloaded the patch, yet it still doesn't work. Have you have any problems since or is it all good? (I see the thread is from 2010/11, but I thought maybe there were new patches/issues resolved that you might know of).
Waiting from a response from the OUP support team...
Thanks, if ever,

Same problem
by raby15 / January 3, 2014 12:15 AM PST

Has there been any response to mariemiles' question from 8/13 - that the patch worked in 2010/11 but no longer? I am having the same problem now - I tried the patch on the OUP page but it hasn't worked. My version of Flash is 11.9. on Mac OS X.
