Smart TV & NES, N64

by juniel_katarn / March 27, 2013 4:00 PM PDT

Hi. This question is for any owners of model UN46F8000BFXZA, 46'' (or similar).

I'd like to know if any of you have successfully connected either your NES (yeah, THAT console) or your Nintendo 64.

I am considering on buying that particular SmartTV model, but being able to play my original vintage games is a must for me.

Hi juniel_katarn,

I had to look up what connections the NES & N64 had; I'm seeing RCA for the both if I'm right. The TV has those connections; we call them composite connections. There's only one set of inputs, so you'll need a switch, or you'll have to swap out the cables manually.

Thanks for your reply. I have no problem swapping the video cables when required, but I'm more concerned about the supported video formats (I am not knowledgeable of the topic, but did read there are some issues on modern TVs).

For instance, check this forum: (in particular, entry
They talk about terms like 480i and 240i, and supposedly, some Samsung TVs not supporting them.

Is there some source of information from the company where I could check this before buying?

Thanks again.

Hi juniel_katarn,

Unfortunately, there really isn't a source of information. It's relatively rare enough we get asked about it, but I asked the product specialist about this. He responded with a picture of his NES connected to a EH5000. So yes, it works with an NES at least, so I'd suspect a N64 would as well.
