First I would uninstall Spybot, and run MalwareBytes (you can download from CNET) - Install, Update then run a full scan
then change your Windows Startup from NORMAL to Selective
Step 1: Start the System Configuration Utility
Click Start, click Run, type 'msconfig', and then click OK.
The System Configuration Utility dialog box is displayed
Then click the STARTUP tab - Uncheck any software that loads when you start up Windows (typically itunes, yahoo messenger, Adobe Air, Adobe Acrobat, Quicktime, etc)
***BE CAREFUL NOT TO SHUT OFF MICROSOFT PROGRAMS***
Hit OK, then Reboot
My PC is a few years old (5 at least) and was running quite slowly, so I de-fragged the C Drive, used CCleaner and performed a disk Clean Up - all went well until on the advice of a friend I downloaded Spybot... after a scan using Spybot the PC boots up quickly, but once I've logged in the whole thing grinds to a halt, it keeps running and loading programmes in the background (I presume this is Spybot running) but it is so slow I can hardly even open Spybot to see what's happening - it takes at least 10 mins to establish an internet connection now (using latest version of Firefox)
It does work, but very, very slowly.
If I remove Spybot and reset the changes it made (only a few) will this solve the slowness?
If so, what other steps can I take to ensure the PC runs at a decent speed (I know it will never run as efficiently as a new machine but hey... you use what you have)
Any other tips and advice on sorting this out would be much appreciated
